Domestic violence charge on Om Puri
The Versova police are on the lookout for Padma Shri award-winning actor Om Puri, who is said to be “untraceable” after allegedly assaulting his wife after an argument between the two over maintenance of their flat in Seven Bungalows in Andheri (West) last week.
According to the Versova police, the incident took place on last Thursday night when a heated argument ensued between Om Puri and his wife Nandita at their flat in Trushil building in Seven Bungalows, where they live with their son.
Nandita in her statement to the police said that Om Puri picked up a wooden stick and hit her on the back.
The police said the injury was a minor one. Nandita’s mother and a servant who were present in the house have witnessed the fight. Nandita did not elaborate to the police whether the accused was under the influence of alcohol. Soon after the fight took place around 9 pm, Nandita left the house and later approached the Versova police station at around 11 am where a FIR was registered against Om Puri.
“We have booked Om Puri under IPC Sections 324 (punishment for causing hurt by dangerous means), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and he is currently untraceable. He has not applied for bail,” said senior police inspector, Harishchandra R. Parmale of the Versova police station.
The 62-year-old has acted in several Hindi and American-British films and has won National Awards for two of his movies.
