DMK decides to pull out of UPA Government
Chennai: After days of tortuous negotiations with a Congress that remained firm on 60+ seats for the forthcoming elections, the DMK on Saturday decided to pull out of UPA government at the Centre and provide only issue-based support.
A resolution adopted at a meeting in Chennai said that the 'Congress does not want us to continue in the alliance. Their attitude clearly shows this, says the resolution. The Congress stand does not help for an amicable poll accord,' the resolution said.
"The Congress stand surprises us," said the DMK chief and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Mr M Karuanidhi, at the high-level meeting.
"We are compelled to suspect that these are all the efforts by Congress to remove us from the UPA. Under these circumstances we have to think whether to continue in the government," Mr Karunanidhi said
"Under the circumstances, we have to think whether to continue in the Union government. So we have decided to relieve ourselves from the government," Mr Karunanidhi said.
