DMK creating a mirage to dupe voters: Jaya

AIADMK chief J. Jayalalithaa on Sunday equated the DMK’s attempt to create an illusion of sweeping the assembly polls by distributing money to voters with a story from the Ramayana in which Ravana creates a mirage of killing the abducted Sita to break Ram’s will.

“The DMK is afraid of losing the polls this time, so it has been showering all 234 constituencies with cash to buy its way to victory. By doing so, it is trying to create a false impression of being strong and wants to break our will, but we shall not lose heart,” she said.
Demanding the ouster of Mr Karunanidhi and his family rule, Ms Jayalalithaa listed out the drawbacks of the DMK government, laying emphasis on incessant power cuts, skyrocketing prices and poor maintenance of law and order.
“When can we rescue the state from Karunanidhi’s clutches if not now? This is another fight for independence, to liberate our state from a man who cares about no one except his family,” said Ms Jayalalithaa.
Pointing out that Mr Karunanidhi had landed the state with debt of `1 lakh crore, the AIADMK supremo appealed to the crowd to uproot the “corrupt kingdom of Karunanidhi” and punish the DMK for looting the money of the nation through the 2G scam.
A confident Ms Jayalalithaa spent the day crisscrossing South Chennai, slamming archrival and chief minister M. Karunanidhi and making generous promises to the people in the city, including three major canals that she said would be constructed to flush out rainwater that floods Chennai every monsoon. She also promised a three-member panel to solve the school fee imbroglio.
“When the AIADMK returns to power, the priority would be to curb the price rise and bring back law and order in the state.
The IT expressway will be made better and a hospital will be built for the residents of Velachery,” Ms Jayalalithaa said, adding that she would nationalise the cable television network.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
