DMK-Cong alliance to continue for assembly polls also: Congress
Asserting that the DMK-Congress alliance in Tamil Nadu has been a “victorious combine” till now, senior Congress leader Jayanthi Natarajan on Thursday said that the tie-up would continue for the Assembly elections in the state in 2011 as well.
After meeting state chief minister M. Karunanidhi at his Gopalapuram residence here, she told reporters the combine has found a permanent place in the hearts of the people, who were well-aware of the various welfare schemes launched by the Central and the state governments.
"It (the DMK-Congress) is a victorious combine. It will continue in the next elections also," she said and urged the people to help and ensure its victory in the next polls.
Describing the meeting as a courtesy call, she said she discussed the present political situation in Tamil Nadu and New Delhi with the chief minister.
On the Sri Lankan Tamils issue, Ms Natarajan said a report has been submitted by the special envoy (deputed by the Union government to Lanka) on the present conditions of the affected Tamils in the island nation to the Centre.
"It is yet to be considered. After consulting Mr Karunanidhi necessary steps will be taken based on the recommendations made in the report," she added.
