Din in Assembly over SP MLA son slap row
The Akhilesh Yadav government faced some more embarrassing moments in the state Assembly on Friday when the Opposition raised the issue of a Samajwadi MLA’s son slapping a lady teacher at a local private university.
The teacher, who had been slapped, met the chief minister on Friday and apprised him of the incident. The chief minister reportedly assured her that action will be taken in the matter.
Abhinav Gupta, son of Samajwadi Party MLA from Bidhuna, Pramod Gupta, and a relative of SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, had allegedly slapped the teacher at Amity University on Thursday after a dispute over his attendance. The university authorities have suspended the student and formed a committee to probe the matter.
The incident took place when the teacher, Archana Shukla, was taking class of the sixth semester. Abhinav, a student of LLB eighth semester, reportedly knocked on the door of the classroom and asked the teacher to come out. When she ignored, the boy started hurling abuses. He, however, kept hanging around and slapped the teacher as soon as she came out after the class was over. He fled after a senior faculty member and students rushed to the victim. Abhinav, on several occasions, had threatened the teacher over the phone.
As the news of the incident spread, teachers suspended classes and lodged a complaint with the head of the department Manoj Kumar Sharma.
The students of the sixth semester, who were a witness to the incident, submitted an eye-witness account in writing to the authorities. The victim teacher has also lodged a complaint with the Chinhat police.
