Dimple Yadav winner before contest
She looked demure in s simple green sari but definitely much more confident than her previous tryst with politics.
Flanked by elders from the family and seniors from the party on the dais, Dimple Yadav promised the people of Kannauj that she would work to protect the rights of the people and ensure development of the constituency.
Dimple, who filed her nomination for the Kannauj byelections on Tuesday, later addressed a rally where she sought blessings for her political stint.
“It is on your insistence that the party high command has sent me to contest this election and I promise to work for you with full sincerity. The Samajwadi Party is known to do what it says and had already started fulfilling the promises it made to the people in its manifesto,” she said.
She blamed the previous Mayawati rule for rampant corruption that had pushed the state backwards.
Appealing for the support and cooperation of the people of Kannauj, she said, “Jis tarah aapne Netaji (Mulayam Singh Yadav) aur Akhileshji par vishwas jataya hai, usi taragh aap apni is beti, behen aur bhabhi par bhi vishwas jatayenge aur poora vishwas aur samarthan denge.”
A thunderous round of applause that followed proved that Kannauj was won even before it was contested.
Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, with whose resignation the byelection has been necessitated, told the people that this byelection was a people’s poll and would be contested and won by them. This election, he added, was for a few months since Lok Sabha polls could be held earlier than scheduled.
“I have won from here thrice and if I am the chief minister today, it is because of the love and trust that you have given me. I have tried to fulfil all the promises that I made to you in the elections,” he said.
three months ago. The government has five years’ time and we will change the face of Uttar Pradesh,” he said while addressing the rally.
Recalling Dimple’s unsuccessful political debut from Ferozabad in the 2009 by-elections, Akhilesh said that the people of Kannauj had told him then that if Dimple had contested form Kannauj, she would have never faced defeat.
“Dimple is here and I am confident that you will send her victorious with a record margin of votes,” he said and added that it was Kannauj that sent him to the Lok Sabha at a young age also.
Referring to the ongoing power crisis, the chief minister said that the Mayawati government was responsible for the prevailing situation since not even a single additional unit of power had been manufactured during its regime. He promised to take firm steps to improve the power situation and said that the people would experience the winds of change very soon.
