Dilip remains in ICU, stable
Yesteryears actor Dilip Kumar, who was admitted to Lilavati Hospital in suburban Bandra on Sunday night, continues to be in the intensive care unit (ICU).
Mr Kumar suffered a myocardial infraction, for which he had to be admitted to the hospital, said the doctors treating him.
The 90-year-old actor was brought to Lilavati Hospital at around 8.45 pm on Sunday and immediately admitted in the ICU ward of the cardiology department. On Monday the team of doctors treating him confirmed that the actor suffered a myocardial infraction.
The hospital, in a press statement said, “Mr Dilip Kumar suffered a myocardial infarction yesterday. He was admitted to Lilavati Hospital yesterday at around 9.30 pm in the ICU. All treatment as per protocol was instituted. At present his condition is stable. In view of his advanced age and post bypass status, he needs close monitoring in the ICU. He is in the able hands of Dr Nitin Gokhale, cardiologist.”
Mr Kumar had undergone an open-heart bypass surgery in 1999.
Meanwhile Mr Kumar’s wife, Saira Banu said, “He is stable, and we are praying that he recovers fully. On the 13th of this month he had viral fever for one day. He felt a little uneasy so we decided to bring him to hospital and right now he is conscious. He had undergone open-heart surgery 14 years ago.”
Mr Kumar has been honoured with the Padma Bhushan award in 1991 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1994 for his contributions towards Indian cinema and also nominated to Rajya Sabha for a term. In 1998 he was awarded the Nishan-e-Imtiaz, the highest civilian award conferred by the government of Pakistan. He is the second Indian to receive the award.
