Digvijay asks Gadkari to explain Jethmalani ties
New Delhi, July 12: The Union finance minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee, said at Beharampore on Sunday that while “making comments on an issue, political leaders should maintain decency.”
Reacting to the BJP chief’s remark against him, the Congress leader Mr Digvijay Singh asked Mr Gadkari to specify his relationship with Mr Ram Jethmalani who had defended Afzal Guru.
“Jethmalani who had defended Afzal Guru became a BJP MP thanks to Mr Gadkari. I will ask him to spell out his relationship with the veteran jurist,” Mr Singh posed the question to the BJP chief.
On Mr Gadkari’s refusal to apologise for his remarks on Afzal Guru, Mr Singh said he did not want to give any importance to someone making such “non-serious” comments.
Mr Singh, who is also in-charge of Congress affairs in Uttar Pradesh, asked the BJP to explain its ties with the killers of Rajiv Gandhi.
“Mr Advani was at the helm for six years but he did not hang the killers of Rajiv Gandhi. Will the party explain its relationship with them?” he asked.
