Digitisation: States’ help sought
With an aim to complete digitisation of cable sector in the four metros in 2012, the Union information and broadcasting ministry is likely to seek the help of respective state governments.
The ministry is soon likely to write to chief ministers of Delhi, West Bengal, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu seeking their help to ensure timely change over from analog transmission to digitisation in the Indian cable sector.
The step comes after the bill seeking to amend the Cable Act to facilitate the digital switch over have been passed by both Houses of Parliament.
In the first phase digitisation of all cable homes will be done in New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai.
The government has also decided to launch an awareness generation campaign for making the sunset date of analogue cable network in the country.
