Diggy-Jogi tussle mars Cong meet
A meeting of Congressmen convened here on Thursday to pay homage to party leaders and workers, killed in the Naxal attack at Jiram Ghati in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar district on May 25, witnessed a virtual war of words between AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh and former chief minister Ajit Jogi, leaving the gathering in a peculiar state of uneasiness.
The provocation to the unexpected turn of event on the occasion was triggered by Mr Jogi when he said “outsiders” can do no good to the state apparently targeting the former MP chief minister, who was here on a four-day visit to the state to show his sympathy with family members of slain Congress leaders and workers by dropping in their homes. “People from Fatehgarh or Pratapur cannot do the welfare of Chhattisgarh. People of the state alone can do it”, Mr Jogi remarked apparently targeting Mr Singh.
Mr Singh, however, seemed to have countered Mr Jogi in a subtle manner. “Chhattisgarh always welcomed outsiders. This is the significance of the state,” he said. He reminded the case of former Congress MLA Udai Mudaliar.
