Didn’t need to kill DSP: Raja Bhaiyya
Raja Bhaiyya defended himself by saying that he had absolutely no motive to harm the police officer. He expressed his condolences to the bereaved families of the slain officer and two others.
Speaking on the issue in the state Assembly on Monday, he also clarified that he had resigned only because he did not wish to cause any embarrassment to the Samajwadi Party and was even ready to go to jail for the same reason.
“I met the DSP just twice and found him to be a very quiet and amiable person. Besides, if I had any problem with him, I would have simply got him transferred out. Why would I get him eliminated?” he said.
Blaming the police for the tragic sequence of events, Raja Bhaiyya said that when the police officer went into the village, his subordinates ran away, leaving him alone to face the furious mob.
The role of the police should be examined and the guilty should be punished, he said and added that the brother of the village head had been hit by a police bullet.
Raja Bhaiyya said that those who had motivated the slain cop’s family to name him in the FIR did so because of political reasons but in their short-sightedness, they have ensured that the cop’s actual killers will probably never be caught.
“As soon as I learnt of the murder of the village head and the violence thereafter, I went to the chief minister’s residence. Rohit Singh, my driver and an accused in the murder, was with me and the CCTV footage at the CM residence is proof of this. I informed the chief minister of the incident who, in turn, called up the DGP and ADG and asked them to take action,” he said.
