Didi runs govt like a club, says Buddhadeb

Former chief minister and CPI(M) politburo member Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee ridiculed the Mamata Banerjee government by comparing its functioning with a neighbourhood club. He vehemently criticised the government for its “lack of vision and policy which was driving the state towards disaster.”

Addressing a meeting on the occasion of the 124th birth anniversary of late communist leader Muzaffar Ahmed on Sunday, Mr Bhattacharjee also asked his party comrades to mobilise the people’s support and launch a mass campaign against the government.

“Nobody knows the vision, direction and policy of this government. It is only engaged in installing street lights, painting bridges and organising celebrations. Is it a government or a local club? A state government cannot run in this manner,” Mr Bhattacharjee said.

The former chief minister also came down heavily on the government over the law and order situation. “West Bengal is in a state of anarchy. Incidents of crime and atrocities against women are on the rise. Anti-socials are firing bullets after entering people’s homes. However, the government is taking no step. Moreover, all the time, the chief minister is claiming that these are small incidents. In our time (during the regime of the previous Left Front government), we always took prompt action to maintain law and order situation. This government has brought new enthusiasm for the anti-socials who believe that this is their government,” he said.

In this situation, he called for launching a mass campaign against the government with people’s support. “Though we are under attack, we will not leave the ground at any situation. We will have to mobilise the people’s support against this government. People who have left us for our mistakes, we will have to win over them again. We will have to convince them like friends not as their masters,” Mr Bhattacharjee added.

He also claimed that this government since assuming office in May 2011 had failed to bring any investment in the industrial sector.
