DGCA to take up kingfisher employee death
Aviation regulator DGCA will take up the issue — of the recent alleged suicide by the wife of a Kingfisher technician and the hardship faced by employees and their families on account of lack of payment of salaries for several months — with the cash-strapped airline, top DGCA sources said late on Saturday evening. The DGCA is also discussing the mater internally. The aviation regulator had, on Friday, issued a show cause notice to the airline asking why its operating permit should not be suspended or cancelled.
Even though there is no specific rule currently for cancellation of an airline’s licence in case of lack of timely payment of salaries to staff, top DGCA sources said the rules provide for suspension or cancellation of licence in case of any sudden change in the financial situation of an airline. The DGCA had on Friday given Kingfisher 15 days to send its reply to the showcause notice.
Meanwhile, a rattled Kingfisher top brass is understood to have told employees on Saturday that it was “pained” at the delay in payment of salaries and that it wanted to resolve this “painful issue”.
