Despite HC order, MPs stick to illegal structures
New Delhi: Illegally constructed structures inside the official bungalows of several MPs were still intact, though two years have elapsed since Delhi High Court ordered to remove them.
Among the senior MPs, whose houses in Lutyens' Delhi have illegal strcutures, include Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley, Shahnawaz Hussain, Sumitra Mahajan and Ram Jethmalani (all BJP), Harsimrat Kaur (SAD), Amar Singh (expelled from SP), and Sanjay Nirupam (Congress), Urban Development Ministry sources said.
Ministry officials said they were taking action to remove the illegal structures in the MPs' houses in accordance with the HC order.
Of the 71 houses that were identified by the HC order, the ministry has till now removed illegal constructions from only 18 houses in Lutyens' Delhi.
Among the MPs, whose illegal construction were removed, included Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker Karia Munda. However, former LS Deputy Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal had in April this year written to the Urban Development Ministry to condone the illegal construction, sources added.
