Delhi police nod to bail plea of 5
The Delhi police on Monday told the Delhi high court that it has no objection to the bail pleas of the five accused in the cash-for-vote scam case, including L.K. Advani’s former aide Sudheendra Kulkarni and two former BJP MPs, as well as the anticipatory bail plea of party MP Ashok Argal.
Standing counsel for Delhi police, Pawan Sharma, told Justice M.L. Mehta that the final chargesheet in the case has been filed and none of the accused were required for custodial interrogation.
The court reserved the judgment till November 16 after hearing arguments by counsels of the six accused — former BJP parliamentarians Faggan Singh Kulaste and Mahabir Singh Bhagora, Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh’s former aide Sanjeev Saxena, alleged BJP activist Suhail Hindustani and Kulkarni, besides BJP MP Ashok Argal who is not in custody and has sought anticipatory bail.
“The honourable court may consider granting bail to all the six accused who have filed their bail applications in the court,” the Delhi police counsel said.
The five incarcerated accused approached the high court challenging the denial of bail by the trial court. Ashok Argal, who has moved the high court for anticipatory bail, was earlier granted exemption by it from appearing before the trial court which had summoned him after he was chargesheeted in the case.
Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh, who is also an accused in the case, has already been granted bail by the high court on health grounds.
Justice Mehta would on Tuesday hear the anticipatory bail plea of Samajwadi Party leader Rewati Raman Singh, who was recently summoned as an accused by the trial court.
During the hearing, senior advocate Maninder Singh, appearing for Kulaste, said, “The sting operation was conducted to expose horse-trading and no criminal motive could be attributed in the case as there was no illegal gratification. The whistleblower MPs have been made accused and put behind bars.”
