Delhi, k’taka police to seek fasih custody
The Delhi and Karnataka police have initiated the process to seek the deportation of Fasih Mehmood, an alleged terror suspect who is currently under detention in Saudi Arabia.
Sources said, “Mehmood, wanted by the Delhi and Karnataka police for his alleged involvement in Chinnaswamy Stadium blasts in Bengaluru and Jama Masjid (Delhi) shooting incident in 2010, has not been chargesheeted by the Indian agencies so far. Both, Delhi and Karnataka police on Monday informed the ministry of home affairs that they have not filed any chargesheet against him”. Therefore, as per Interpol rules, Indian agencies can not seek his extradition, sources said, adding now, the only option left for Indian agencies is to seek his deportation through diplomatic channel.
“Now law enforcement agencies have sought the help of ministry of external affairs and MHA in seeking the early deportation of Mehmood,” sources said. The agencies want his deportation as seeking extradition under current circumstances is not legally possible, they added.
Authorities in Saudi Arabia recently confirmed to the CBI, nodal agency for the Interpol in India, that they have arrested Mehmood, an engineer hailing from Bihar. He was arrested there on an Interpol red corner notice, which was issued on the request of the CBI on May 31, 2012 sources added.
The RCN had been issued against 28-year-old Mehmood on a request from the CBI for offences of terrorism and crimes. The CBI had approached the Interpol at the request of Delhi and Karnataka police for the alleged role of Mehmood in two blasts.
