Delhi govt seeks 3-fold pay hike of ministers
The Delhi Cabinet on Monday approved about a three-fold hike in the salary and allowances of MLAs and ministers. The Cabinet also approved 15 per cent hike in the minimum wages apart from approving an amendment to Delhi VAT Tax Bill, 2011.
The Delhi government would now send the proposal seeking three-fold hike in the salary and perks of MLAs and ministers to the Central government.
The revised proposal was brought to the Delhi Cabinet after the Union home ministry had returned the file three months ago after raising objections on the provision of interest-free loans to buy vehicles. Once the Centre approves the proposal, a Delhi minister will get about `1.20 lakhs per month in salary and allowances, while the MLAs would get around `85,000. The Cabinet also approved opening of 15 new courts to try corruption cases.
