Dec. 16 rape: Victim’s mom deposes
The December 16 gangrape victim’s mother deposed as a prosecution witness in the special court on Friday and made an emotional appeal with folded hands to the judge to give her daughter justice.
Appearing before additional sessions judge Yogesh Khanna, the mother of the 23-year-old paramedical student, prayed to him, “Judge sahib, meri beti ko insaaf dilwaiye (Please, secure justice for my daughter).” The victim’s brother and father were also present in the courtroom.
Advocate V.K. Anand, appearing for accused Mukesh, did not cross-examine her saying, “She is already in deep pain and asking her a question may depress her more. I do not want to ask any question on behalf of my client. I can understand the pain of a mother.” When the counsel for other three accused started to cross-examine the witness, the judge requested them to be “polite” with the woman and ask relevant questions.
In her deposition, the victim’s mother said that, “My daughter left the house at 4 pm informing me that she had to make some purchases and would also go to a movie. When she left the house she was carrying her mobile phone.” She said when the victim did not return home till 9 pm, she made calls on her mobile phone but it was switched off and she and her husband were very worried.

Cricketer moves court for copy of FIR

Indian cricketer, who is being quizzed along with 13 others in the IPL spot-fixing scandal case, on Friday moved a Delhi court seeking a copy of the FIR registered against him.
The cricketer, his two teammates of Rajasthan Royals franchise and 11 bookies were on Thursday remanded to police custody for five days. The cricketer be supplied with a copy of the FIR for preparing his defence, the application, filed before chief metropolitan magistrate (CMM) Lokesh Kumar Sharma, said. The court has so far not fixed a date for hearing it. The accused should be told about the grounds of arrest, Deepak Prakash, counsel for the cricketer, said. The accused is an international player and had no reasons to get involved in such acts, the lawyer said.
While seeking seven days police custody for interrogation, the police had told the court that the cricketer and his IPL teammates who were arrested in Mumbai on Thursday, had betted and taken money for every ball and run in every over.
The police had also sought remand for custodial interrogation of the cricketers and others.
