Dawood, Shakeel & 37 more face ‘fix’ charges
The Delhi police special cell on Tuesday filed the chargesheet in the IPL-6 “spot-fixing” case. A total of 39 people, including underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, his close aide Chota Shakeel, cricketers Ajit Chandila, Ankeet Chavan and S. Sreesanth, were named as accused in the 6,000-page chargesheet, of which eight accused are in judicial custody, 21 are on bail while 10 are still absconding.
All the accused were chargesheeted for offences of cheating and conspiracy under IPC and under stringent provisions of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act. Former Team India star and Rajasthan Royals skipper Rahul Dravid has been named an eyewitness.
The chargesheet, filed before link additional sessions judge Vinay Kumar Khanna, said as per the Central Forensic Science Laboratory report on call intercepts, one of the voices has been identified as that of Dawood: a witness identified the don’s voice and phone number. The CFSL report relates to phone calls by cricketers and bookies with alleged underworld links. They were also found speaking to Dawood’s associate Javed Chutani and one Salman, now in Pakistan. Both Chutani and Salman are among the accused in the case.
Special commissioner (special cell) S.N. Srivastava said the police identified the voice of Dawood Ibrahim thrice in the IPL spot-fixing scam.
