Dam row: BJP march turns violent at Mullaperiyar
Several BJP workers were injured in a clash with security personnel at Vallakkadvau while they were trying to stage a march demanding urgent steps to resolve the Mullaperiyar Dam dispute between Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
The clash broke out at Vallakkadvau close to the dam when police personnel tried to stop BJP workers from marching ahead by putting up barricades.
Police, however, blamed the marchers for the situation.
BJP's youth wing Yuva Morcha organised the programme of symbolically digging a canal near the dam site to highlight the need for urgent steps to ensure safety for Kerala while assuring water to Tamil Nadu.
BJP state president V Muraleedharan, who addressed the marchers, blamed the Centre and state governments for failure to resolve the dam dispute between Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
He also took a dig at the state government over the Advocate General allegedly taking a position divergent from that of the state on the dam issue.
