Dalit rape: Activist says accused minors
A human rights activist has challenged the arrest and imprisonment of two persons allegedly involved in rape and murder of a minor girl at Kharinashi village in Orissa’s Kendrapara district.
Activist B.K. Pati, in a written complaint to the Kendrapra superintendent of police and District Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), said accused Pradip Das and Ekadasi Das were minors and sending them to jail was violation of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act. “As per school records both the accused are minors. Despite the grave nature of offence allegedly committed by them, law does not permit police to send them to jail,” the human rights activist told the district police in a written complaint. Mr Pati said he had lodged a complaint with the chairman of the District Juvenile Justice Board.
