CVRDE director to be awarded DRDO's Scientist of the Year
Chennai-based scientist P. Siva Kumar has been named the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO's) Scientist of the Year 2010, officials said on Thursday.
Kumar, the director of DRDO's Combat Vehicle Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE) in Chennai, will receive the honour from defence minister A.K. Antony in a function on Friday in Delhi, they said.
Kumar started his career at CVRDE as Scientist ‘B’ in 1984. As project director (Arjun), Kumar was instrumental in proving the medium fording capability for MBT Arjun and delivering production tanks to users.
During his tenure, a third-party auditing of Arjun by an expert tank manufacturer from outside India was organised involving DRDO labs, Heavy Vehicle Factory and user for both design and trials, the officials said.
S. Sundaresh, controller, research and development, DRDO, would get the Technology Leadership Award for 2010, they said, adding that CVRDE's public relations officer Ravindran would get the Best Popular Science and Communication Award.
A total of 41 DRDO officials would receive the awards on Friday.
