Curfew relaxed for about 7 hrs
Curfew was relaxed for almost seven hours on Thursday in the riot-hit Muzaffarnagar.
People rushed out to buy essentials and groceries between 10 am and 5 pm when curfew was relaxed.
District magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma said that though the shops opened on Thursday, all schools and colleges would remain closed till September 15. Strict vigil was being maintained during the relaxation period and police and paramilitary forces have been asked to remain on high alert.
The administration had imposed curfew in Kotwali, Civil Lines and Nai Mandi areas of the district on Saturday last following communal clashes.
Curfew had been relaxed for five hours on Wednesday in Muzaffarn-agar but Baghpat witnessed a communal clash leaving a constable hurt.
