Criminals took family hostage, SI killed in encounter

A police sub inspector was killed in an encounter with miscreants in Mau district on Wednesday, sources said.

Miscreants, after being chased by the police, took refuge in a house in Matiyakot village of Chiriya Kot area of the district.

Surrounded by the police team, the criminals opened fire, in which inspector Kotwali Govind Singh was killed, home department sources said.

The criminals have took the family hostage and the encounter was still on, they said.

Additional police force was rushed from neighbouring districts and senior officials have also reached the spot.
