Nellore: Unidentified masked persons cut the hair of a woman and set her clothes on fire after forcibly disrobing her at the Nagulapadu village in Addanki mandal on Saturday. On Saturday, the two women were grazing cattle at Kongadonka, near the village.
The goons attacked the women. While one managed to escape and shout for help, the other was caught by the miscreants. After chopping her hair and buring her clothes, the attackers also tried to molest the woman. However, other villagers rushed to the spot and the goons fled. Sub-inspector Ravindra Babu recorded the statement of the victim.

Hyderabad: In what appears to be a suspected case of suicide, the charred bodies of an aged couple were found in their one-room house in Viratnagar of Golconda’s Toli Chowki area in the early hours of Saturday.
The deceased couple have been identified as K. Swamy, 70, a retired employee, and his 65-year old wife K. Lingamma. The police said there are also chances that the couple may have got accidentally killed by a fire caused by an electric short-circuit. They stayed alone in their single-room house, while  their married son Sudhama lived separately along with his family in a nearby house.
Sudhama noticed the smoke coming from his parents’ house when he woke up at 6 am. He immediately rushed to the house and opened its door only to see his parents burnt to death.
“The son of the deceased couple immediately contacted us and lodged a complaint saying his parents were found burnt alive”,   said sub-inspector of Golconda, Bhramachary. According to him, the incident might have taken place between 3 am and 4 am. When the cops reached the spot, they found the couple’s completely burnt remains. “Their bodies were totally burnt and reduced to ashes,” said Bhramachary.
According to the police, there was an empty kerosene container found at the spot raising suspicion that the couple might have committed suicide by setting themselves ablaze. “It could also be an accidental death by fire caused by a short-circuit”, he said.
The police though ruled out the possibility of property dispute as being the reason behind the tragedy saying the deceased couple was well looked after by their son. He added that the question of the couple’s death being a suicide or an accident will be answered only after an investigation. The police has registered a case under Section 174 of the CrPC. The bodies have been handed over to their son following  post-mortem.

Mom, 68, drowns trying to save mentally ill children
NeIlore: In a tragic incident, an ailing woman drowned, reportedly trying to save her two adult mentally ill children at Gottikarlapadu village of SPSR Nellore district on Saturday.
The mother, identified as 68-year-old Dodla Subbamma, had been living in the village along with her son Dastagiri, 28, and daughter Tirupatamma, 26. Her husband had died a decade ago and she worked as an agriculture worker.
According to locals, Dast-agiri and Tirupatamma, both of them mentally unstable, had accompanied Subbamma when she went to graze her cattle. Dastagiri and Tirupatamma had gone to a well to drink water, but had accidentally fallen in. On hearing their cries, Subbamma also jumped in to rescue them. But all three of them died. Locals fished out the bodies and gave them a burial.
Later, talking to media under conditions of anonymity, some villagers admitted that Subbamma had been worrying about the future of her children after she fell ill recently. They said the woman pushed her kids into the well before jumping in herself.

Thieves loot 4 shops, take away Rs 10,000
Hyderabad: Thieves broke in to four shops — a medical store, two textile stores and a departmental store — in the Medchal area early on Saturday morning and made away with Rs 10,000 in cash. The shops are located in the same neighbourhood. The cops picked up clues andchecked the CCTV footage which revealed that there were two persons involved.
According to A. Rami Reddy, the Medchal inspector, the incident took place very early in the morning. When the shop-owners came to open their shops, they found that they had been robbed.
Based on a complaint lodged by the victims, a case has been registered and is being investigated. The CCTV camera fixed in the medical store showed the thieves, but due to the blurry nature of the images, the culprits could not be identified. The police is trying to track them down.

14-yr-old slips from school bus, dies
Vijayawada: A 14-year-old student died after slipping off a moving school bus while returning home at Gollapalli village, Nuzvid mandal, on Saturday. The boy, B. Sunny of Gollapalli village was a Class VI student of St. Mary’s school. He died on the spot.
Police said the mechanically operated door of the bus opened due to the uneven road and Sunny, who was playing inside the bus, slipped and fell on the road. A case has been registered against the school as well as the bus driver.

Hyderabad: The sleuths of the Central Zone Task Force on Saturday arrested a man for preparing fake documents for clients to obtain student US visas.Bolla Shiva Kumar, 23, used to prepare the documents using fake letterheads and rubber stamps of various reputed institutions. Meanwhile, Shiva Kumar himself has been trying to acquire an American student visa.
According to P. Rameshiah, the additional DCP of the Task Force, after his Intermediate, Shiva Kumar had started a shop selling CDs in Chikkadpally. He was earlier arrested under the Copyright Act for making pirated movie CDs. The cops received a tip-off and raided Shiva Kumar and arrested him.

Police busts cheating gang, three arrested
Hyderabad: A nine-member gang cheated gullible people to the tune of Rs 2 crore, promising house loans, under various government schemes. The gang set up an organisation named Kalki Mahila Mandali and took money from nearly 300 people and cheated them.
The accused convinced the victims that they will get house plots and loans under the government schemes like Rajiv Gruhakalpa, Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), and Indiramma Runalu.
Police on Saturday busted the gang by arresting three members, including two women. The trio started the organisation in 2011 at Bowenpally and Mangalhat, and convinced the victims to pay Rs 13,000 to Rs 25,000, in two years. According to the police six more accused, including two women, are still absconding.
The deputy commissioner of police, detective department, L.K.V Ranga Rao, said that the main accused in the case, Dasari Srikant, 26, a businessman from Dhoolpet, and his mother Sodha Kumari, 51, started the organisation.
The two arrested are Aramalla Anuradha, 40, OGH nursing college warden from Chaitanyapuri, and P. Rukmini Devi, 45, president of Bhavani Mahila Mandali, from Bowenpally. The police has booked cases under IPC Section 420 (for cheating) and 406 (for criminal breach of test).

Bangladeshi convict ends life
Hyderabad: A Bangladeshi national, who was convicted by a local court four days ago, ended his life inside the Chanchalguda Central Prison. 25-year-old Mohd. Ripon, alias Mahamood, a native of Dhaka, hanged himself in the common toilet at Krishna barrack using his lungi on Friday.
Though the jail officials rushed him to the Osmania General Hospital, he was declared dead by the doctors. Ripon was convicted for two years for staying in the country without valid documents.
Chanchalguda jail officials said Ripon was put up in the first floor of Krishna barrack. “Following his conviction, he seemed disturbed. He was found hanging from the ventilator of the common toilet by jail warden Maruthi Rama Rao. The jail doctor was immediately called and Ripon was rushed to OGH,” an official said.
Chanchalguda officials said that they have informed the Bangladesh Embassy in Delhi and have requested it make arrangements to send Ripon’s body home.

Madurai: Sleuths of the Madurai district narcotics intelligence bureau (NIB) have arrested two persons, one of them a Chennai-based video shop-owner, in connection with the seizure of heroin worth Rs 1 crore.
A few days ago, the NIB team, on a tip-off from customs inspector Ayyap­paraj, raided a digital studio-cum-CD shop on West Vadampokki Street, near Koodal Azhagar Perumal temple. They seized 450 grams of heroin from the shop and inquired with its proprietor Balan and employees Latha and Ramanathan.
They told the investigation team that they were in no way connected with it and told that three persons who had visited the shop to buy CDs had left behind the parcel.
The team zeroed in on Nallamuthu (43) of Siluv­a­i­­puram, in Thoothu­kudi, who was one among the three to have visited Balan’s shop. He confessed to having committed the offence along with his brother’s son Azha­gupandi and his friends Periyasamy and Muthu­kumar, NIB DIG John Nicholson said.
He further said Nalla­muthu has been friends with Abubacker of Chen­nai for the last 10 years. Abubacker had pledged jewels belonging to Nallamuthu for Rs 3.4 lakh at a pawnshop. Nallamu­thu paid the sum and retrieved the jewels after it came to light that they were fake.
Promising to give back the amount received by him on pledging the fake ornaments, Abubacker took Nalla­muthu to Chennai and introduced him to Kaja Maideen of Chintadripet engaged in manufacturing and selling unauthorised CDs. He harbo­ured enmity aga­inst his Madurai competitor Balan who has been selling authorised CDs, the officer said.
Maideen, who wanted to settle scores with Balan, promised Nallamuthu Rs 50 lakh provided he kept the contraband in his rival’s shop. Nalla­muthu rece­ived Rs 3.4 lakh as advance and executed the plan.
The NIB arrested Nalla­muthu and Maideen. The raid in Maideen’s shop resulted in the seizure of a cache of unauthorised CDs worth several lakh rupees, the officer said. They are on the lookout for six more persons, including Abubacker.

Chennai: Twelve students of Pachaiyappa’s and Presidency colleges were arrested in a suburb of the city on Saturday for getting into a violent fight on a moving train on Friday when they had attacked one another with weapons.
The Avadi railway police registered cases against them under sections 144 (joining unlawful assembly armed with deadly weapon), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC.
They were produced before the Saidapet magistrate and Tiruvallur magistrate courts on Saturday. The arrested are: Aravind, Delibabu and Roky of Arakkonam; Praveenkumar, Karthik, Kotteswaran, Devaraj, Sibi Ranjithkumar and Raji of Tiruvallur; and Nandakumar of Kanakamma Chatiram.
A group of students got on to the train at Hindu College railway station. The train was bound for Arakkonam from Central railway station. They first got into a verbal altercation with another group of students who were also travelling on the train, which then led to the use of deadly weapons. Five students sustained injuries and were admitted to a hospital.
The railway police ascertained during the preliminary investigation that a feud was the cause of the clash between the students from Pachaiyappa’s and Presidency colleges.

Chennai: A 26-year-old BCA student was arrested in the city on Friday for threatening his girl friend with her obscene photographs that he had shot and demanding money from her. They had been in a relationship for nearly a year.
The girl, aged 21, of Noor Veerasamy street, Nungam­bak­kam, was doing MCA in a private college, Chennai, was in love with A. Samuel, 26, of Pudhu Theru, Nunga­m­­ba­kkam, doing BCA thro­ugh correspondence course.
He took several obscene photographs of the girl without her knowledge when they dated. Recently, she visited his house and noticed obscene photographs of several women on his laptop. Angered over this, she had a quarrel with him.
Samuel demanded mo­ney from her to return her photographs. Based on her complaint, the Nungambakkam police arrested Samuel.

Chennai: A 55-year-old man, working as a watchman at a private company in Ambattur, was found ki­lled on Friday evening. Ve­layudam’s body was fou­nd near the Oragadam la­ke. The Ambattur police, he­ad­ed by assistant commissi­o­ner Rajendra Kum­ar, reco­vered the body and sent it to Kilpauk Medical College & Hospital.
Police sources said playing cards were fo­und at the murder site and they suspect that a gambl­ing game gone wro­ng could have led to the mu­rder. A sp­ecial team has been fo­r­m­ed and the police have arrested five persons.
