Chennai: A woman software engineer and her father were arrested by cyber officials from Chennai police for allegedly morphing her husband’s picture to show him in an obscene situation, particularly with his mother and sister, and posting the same on social networking sites.
The arrested were identified as Mohana Priya from Anna Nagar and her father Anandakodi Raj, a businessman. She is doing her PhD after leaving her information technology profession in Hyderabad.
Police said that Mohana Priya was technically qualified to do the morphing and her father, despite knowing the activities by his daughter, did not try to prevent her. Mohana Priya was married to Pradeep Kumar working in Bengaluru.
“Within three months, he decided to terminate the marriage and she was back in her house in Anna Nagar. This infuriated her family. The family had spent heavily on the marriage and they decided to tarnish the image of Pradeep by posting vulgar pictures of him. The morphed pictures indicated that he was having an incestuous relationship with his mother and sister,” police noted.
Interestingly, Pradeep had been trying to tell the investigators of the cyber crime wing for the last many days that he was a victim of mischief by his wife. “Because she posted such pictures on social networking sites, the scheduled marriage of Pradeep‘s sister was called off.

Dowry harassment drives housewife to suicide
Hyderabad: A housewife committed suicide at her house in Saraswathinagar at Boduppal allegedly due to dowry harassment. The victim’s husband used to pick up fights with her demanding more dowry.
The deceased, R. Sunitha, 38, is the wife of one Naveen Kumar. Sunitha was a homemaker and had two daughters.
Police said that Naveen is an alcoholic, and used to have frequent fights with his wife. Sunitha’s family said they had given Naveen about `5 lakh in cash and 150 gram of gold ornaments as dowry. Naveen had also attempted to poison his two daughters earlier.

Chennai: A woman software professional was abducted and rob­b­ed by a cab driver in Velachery early on Thurs­day while she was waiting for her official vehicle to pick her up in Baby Nagar at around 5 am.
According to the police, the 26-year-old software professional was to be picked up by the official cab arou­nd 5 am as she was heading for an early morning shi­ft when the incident took place.
“She mistook an­o­ther cab which was waiting at the same spot where she was usually picked up and got inside. Only after entering the cab did she realise she was in the wrong car. As she raised alarm, the occupants of the vehicle threatened her and robed her gold chain weighing around 2 sovereigns besides snat­ch­ing her mobile phone,” the police sources said.

Car dealer arrested for filmi style theft in Kovai
Coimbatore: The police on Thursday nabbed a 46-year-old car dealer from Chennai in connection with a theft a few weeks ago at the home of a finance firm owner in Rathinapuri. The accused was nabbed when he tried to use the ATM card he had stolen, the police said.
A seven-member gang barged into the home of Palanisamy, 48, at 7 am on September 5, claiming to be sleuths from the I-T department who were conducting a raid. The gang searched the house and recovered 40 sovereigns of gold, Rs 7.8 lakhs in cash besides several other documents, cheque books and even the ATM cards of the victim.
“They even took the ATM pin number, claiming that they had to check the accounts to see the account balances, maintained by Palanisamy. Trusting them, he gave them the pin number to his ATM and credit cards,” a police officer said.
When he went to the I-T department office at Race Course  the following morning, Palaniswamy was shocked to find from the officials that they had not conducted any raid at his home. He then filed a complaint with the Rathinapuri police.
“As the accused had taken cheque books and ATM cards with them, we had blocked the cards and had put the banks on alert,” a police official said. On Thursday, one of the ATM cards owned by Palanisamy was used in the ATM at R.S. Puram where it got locked.
When the person using the card approached the bank to register a complaint, bank officials alerted the police after they tracked the card to Palanisamy.
A police team rushed to the spot and nabbed Padmanabhan from Chennai. Upon interrogation, police found out that he was a part of the gang that duped Palanisamy, posing as I-T officials. A hunt is on for the remaining members of the gang.

MBA grad arrested for job scam
Chennai: Chennai police arrested an MBA graduate for allege­d­ly conducting fake campus interviews and cheating engineering college students and collecting over `40 lakh from them after promising jobs in companies like Accenture and IBM.
The arrested was identified as Syed Sallaudin, 38, of Vellore district. He has been remanded to judicial custody. According to the police he had collected the details of job seekers from various consultancy firms and based on that data went to private engineering colleges and issued fake appointment orders to aspirants.
We have arrested only one in the case so far. “Syed already had at least two cases pending against him in Vellore. We are on the lookout for his associates,” the police noted.
