Kottayam: Preliminary investigations into the murder of  Rahul, 10, at Neendur near Ettumanur early on Tuesday have revealed that  he was strangled by his father’s sister because of  the strained relationship of the boy’s parents, police said.
Police has arrested Vijayamma, 53, a nurse and the younger sister of Shaju, 56, the child’s father, in connection with the murder. She murdered him to facilitate a  legal divorce for Shaju, who is in Dubai, police said.

Bengaluru: Unidentified miscreants broke into a jewellery shop by digging a small hole in the back wall and looted cash, silver, and gold ornaments worth nearly Rs 20 lakh in Malleswaram police limits on Monday night.
Sampige Jewellers is located on 10th Cross, Sampige main road, Malleswaram. The owner, D.P. Suresh, had reportedly declared a holiday on Monday and the shop had remained shut after closing time on Sunday at 9.30 pm.
When Suresh and his employees opened the main door at 10 am on Tuesday morning, they found most of the gold and silver ornaments and valuables displayed in glass cases missing. A hole in the back wall of the shop was found, through which it is suspected the miscreants gained entry into the shop.
Police said the hole is small enough for only one person to enter the shop at a time. Officials suspect the theft could have occurred anytime between late night on Monday or the wee hours of Tuesday.
“At least three miscreants must have been part of the theft. The front of the shop is located in 10th cross while the back is a part of 9th cross. There is a small gully next to the shop with no houses in it; which the miscreants have used to their advantage,” said a senior police official.
