Hyderabad: A student of Chartered Accountancy, said to be suffering from depression, found an odd way of combating his state of mind: He put the mobile numbers of several academics and others on pornographic websites. He has been arrested by the police after a long search.
Among the 11 people whose mobile numbers he uploaded were the principal of J.B. Institute of Engineering and Technology, and two other professors. The victims have been harassed with lewd phone calls for the last four months.
Abusive emails and messages from random email IDs and mobile numbers stolen by the student also flooded the victims’ mail and message boxes. The wife of one victim even quarrelled with him about the continuous calls and left him.
P. Shaik Shavali
The student, P. Shaik Shavali, 27, managed to remain at large for a long time because he used SIM cards bought with stolen ID cards. Cyberabad Crime cops under the supervision of additional DCP, Crime, Janaki Sharmila, hunted him down after four months of pursuit.
Shaik, who is a native of Kurnool district, lived in the Happy Home Boys hostel while preparing for his CA exams. “He used to collect the victims’ phone numbers by browsing the Internet. He uploaded the numbers on an Indian pornographic website under the name of ‘Chandni’, inviting people for paid sex.
Under the phone numbers, he wrote that “clients” are assured young girls and guest houses in Hitech city. The victims started getting calls seeking girls day and night from all over India,” said N. Jayaram, SI of Cyber Crimes.
Adding to the victims’ misery, Shaik allegedly procured three SIM cards using stolen ID cards and started sending them abusive SMSes and making prank calls. “He flicked his roommates’ phones when they were sleeping and used them to make the calls and send SMSes,” the investigating officer said.

Bagyaraj, 22, hanged himself at his friend’s house in Devarakonda in Nalgonda district using a telephone cord. A suicide note found near his body revealed that he had a debt of Rs 2 lakh, which he was unable to repay.
Bagyaraj, a student of Indra Reddy Engineering College, Chevella, was staying in his friend’s house for a few days. On Wednesday morning, his friend discovered his body hanging from a telephone cord with a suicide note, which stated that he was not able to pay back the debt he took from his acquaintances for betting during IPL matches, said Devarakonda inspector Rajeswar Rao. The suicide note also listed moneylenders who had lent him the money and the sums he had to pay them.
Bagyaraj had sold his bike to make the payments but it was not enough. His friends told the police that the moneylenders had started hounding Bagyaraj who ran away from them. He left college 20 days ago and went back to his village but did not stay in his own home.
His father, Venkatiah, who is a farmer, said that he used to send his son money even though it meant getting into debt himself because he believed Bagyaraj would soon get a good job. The money he sent also went into betting.
Friends and classmates of Bagyaraj said that he had lost the entire amount in the first few bets he placed. “To regain the amount he lost, he started taking money from his acquaintances and engaged in continuous betting,” one of his friends said. He owed Rs 2 lakh to different people. A case has been booked under Section 374 of the CrPC. The body has been sent to Devarakonda for the post-mortem.
