Bengaluru: A 27-year-old homemaker was murdered by her husband on Wednesday after he found out about her alleged affair in Sanjeevappa Layout near Sanjayanagar.
The victim, Rani, had been married to Senthil (35) for eight years and the couple has a seven-year-old daughter. Natives of Tirupattur in Tamil Nadu, they had moved to the city a while ago and were staying in Sanjeevappa Layout.
Senthil works in a garage, while Rani wanted to pursue a teaching course that would allow her to take up a job in the city. She went back to Tirupat­tur along with her daughter and was living with her parents, while attending coaching classes to become a teacher.
Eight days ago, Senthil went to his in-laws' house to visit his wife and reportedly found out about an affair she was having with another man. Furious, he brought her back to Bengaluru.On Wednesday arou­nd 4 pm, an inebriated Senthil apparently ca­me home and began fighting with his wife. In a fit of rage and in the presence of their daughter, he picked up a hollow brick lying inside the house and smashed Rani's head, killing her on the spot.

65-year-old woman murdered for gain
Chennai: A 65-year-old woman was killed in a case of murder for gain at her residence in Anna Nagar on Wednesday.
The gold chain of victim Thirupurasundari, 30 sovereigns of gold jewels and property documents were stolen from the house, according to initial investigations by the police.
The victim lived with her son’s family on the first floor of a building in S.M. Narayana Nagar, and was alone at home when the incident happened.On receiving information from the maid, the victim’s son Muniraj rushed home and was shocked to see his mother dead.
Based on his complaint to the J.J. nagar police station, the police retrieved the body and sent it for post-mortem. Fingerprint experts also lifted evidence from the scene of crime, the police said.
The police found images of the accused in a surveillance camera of a private lodge on the ground floor of the same building.

Madurai: The Madurai district police have launched a hunt for a fake IAS officer who is alleged to have cheated a clerk of Rs43 lakh promising to get a medical seat for his daughter. His father has been arrested in Kerala.
In a complaint lodged with Madurai superintendent of police V. Balakrishnan, Suresh Kumar, working as a clerk in Gandhi Memorial Museum, said since he wanted his daughter, who had finished plus-two, to pursue medicine, sought the help of his friend Selvaraj who introduced him to Madhuganesh Menon of Trissur in Kerala.
His friend had told him that Menon was an IAS officer serving in the planning department in the Prime Minister’s Office. Kumar said he met Madhuganesh Menon in 2011-12 and gave him Rs17 lakh as an initial amount.
But Madhuganesh Menon and his father Sridhar Menon, who received the money, failed to keep their word. When he demanded the money back, they said they would be able to get a seat only for Rs50 lakh and not for anything less than that.
Kumar claimed that he had mobilised funds and gave Rs43 lakh in all to the father and son. Even then, they did not get his daughter a medical seat.
Hence, he and his two friends met the duo in Ernakulam but they brandished a pistol and threatened to do them away. The district crime branch police have filed a cheating case against the Menons.
A special team constituted to nab them has arrested Sridharan Menon in Thrissur while his son has made good his escape, the police said, adding that an airgun pistol, bogus visiting cards and employment orders, papers claiming to have got medical seats in Madurai Medical College and three bank passbooks were seized from him.

Chennai: The city police arrested a 41-year-old man for allegedly ‘smuggling’ LCD TV sets with the help of carriers travelling from Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.
The arrested was identified as Balaiah of Pallavaram who was running a network to bring  duty-free television sets from abroad through air passengers.
“He used to to procure television sets at 30 to 40 per cent less price abroad, pay Rs 1,000 to carriers and sell it locally.
“He had been doing this for several months. We caught him on Wednesday with five television sets, which he had procured from passengers who arrived from abroad. His SUV was also seized,” the police said.

Chennai: In an act of defiance, burglars in the city robbed from a temple inside police quarters here at Kilpauk on Wednesday.
Five sovereigns of gold, a silver crown and cash from the hundi were stolen from the small Amman temple inside the traffic police housing board quarters in Kilpauk.
Owing to Adi festival, the temple used to be quite busy with daily poojas, according to the residents.
On Wednesday morning, it was found that the temple door lock was broken and valuables were stolen from the temple.
Based on a complaint by one Jaya, who takes care of the temple, the Kilpauk police arrived with finger print team and examined the place.
Commenting on the security measures, the Kilpauk police said the temple did not even have a compound wall and many people frequent the place every day.It is speculated that the cash stolen from the hundi would be close to Rs 50,000.
The Kilpauk police have registered a case and are on the lookout for the unidentified gang that was involved in the burglary.

Chennai: A 25-year-old woman, wife of a software professional, committed suicide by hanging on Wednesday morning.
The victim, Jothilakshmi, had been married to software engineer Velmurugan, for two years. The couple has a 10-month-old baby.
According to the police, the couple used to have frequent quarrels and this probably led to the woman taking the extreme step.
The victim’s body was sent to government Royapettah hospital for post-mortem. The Pallikaranai police have registered a case and investigations are on.

3 chain-snatching incidents in Chennai
Chennai: Three women, one of them a lady doctor, were victims of chain-snatching incidents in the city since Tuesday evening.
Dr Jhansi alias Visalakshi (25) working in a private hospital in Alwarpet, travelling on her two-wheeler with her friend Hemalatha, was grievously injured when a masked duo on another bike on Tuesday night tried to snatch her chain near Teynampet.
In the event, the women got pushed down from the bike and a gold chain weighing eight sovereigns was snatched from the doctor. According to the police, Jhansi suffered injuries due to the fall from the moving vehicle.
A senior citizen in Adambakkam was robbed of her 10-sovereign gold chain on Tuesday evening.
The victim, Ambujam, 78, of Muthialpet, was on way back from the temple near her residence when an unidentified person attacked her from behind and gagged her. The person stole the gold chain and escaped from the place.
The victim, lying in an unconscious state, was rescued by the locals and was admitted to a nearby hospital.
The Adambakkam police have registered a case and investigations are on. In another incident, a 45-year-old woman was a victim of chain-snatching near ICF on Tuesday night.
Ammani works at a private engineering college near Tambaram. On Tuesday night, she was returning from a nearby shop when two masked persons on a bike attacked her and snatched her three-sovereign gold chain.

Chennai: Sleuths from the directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI) detained two Kuala Lumpur-bound passengers on Tuesday night after they were found carrying 2 kg ephedrine, worth Rs 40 lakh, stuffed in secret chambers of their shoes.
The two passengers, identified as R. Saravanan (30), from Pudukottai, and T. Senthil Kumar (28), from East Tambaram, were scheduled to fly to the Malaysian capital at 12.45 Tuesday night, when they were stopped by the DRI officials.“They claimed that they were on a pleasure trip to Malaysia. Their bags were clean. But when we checked their shoes, we found half kg of narcotics in each shoe.
Though initially we thought it was heroine, but lab test proved the powder was ephedrine,” airport sources said. The DRI team later handed over the two passengers to airport customs.

Thanjavur: In a gruesome double-murder, a notorious rowdy and his relative were hacked to death by an armed gang at two different places near Kumbakonam on Wednesday.
Selvakumar (24), a notorious rowdy of Kacheri road, Thiruvidaimarudur, accompanied by his friend Babu, was returning home from Thanjavur on a motorbike when an armed gang waylaid his vehicle at the Kumbako­nam-Chettimandapam bypass and killed him.About 10 minutes later, Selvakumar’s relative Saravanan (23) of Isaikattu Theru in Thiruvidai­marudur was murdered by a three-member gang.

Kochi: Thrikkakara police on Wednesday rescued a minor girl after she ran away with a 25-year old man from Kakkanad.
According to police, the 15-year old girl on Wednesday morning went with the man and following a complaint from the girl’s parents, police launched a search and brought the duo back after they were found in the city. No case was charged as the girl’s parents withdrew the complaint.

Belgaum: In yet another case of inhuman confinement, a 48-year-old man from Saudatti was found chained and confined to a small room by the police on Wednesday, and it  lost no time in rescuing him.
The man, Prakash Belavadi, who was chained by both legs, had not left the small room his parents had fitted with bars  to resemble a prison cell, for the last seven years.
Married and with a daughter,  Prakash is described by his family as mentally unstable and an alcoholic who constantly harassed everyone when drunk. But people of the locality don’t recall ever seeing him trouble anyone.
His wife and daughter are said to have moved to her parents’ home after he was put into the dark cell by his parents, who gave him food and water through an opening in the room. But he could barely reach t hem as the chain fitted to his legs was heavy, restricting his movement.
Large rings fitted to the chain  held his legs tightly.Despite his long confinement, none of his friends or the police were aware of  it till  informed by the locals on Tuesday.
A team of police and government officials  rushed to the house in Saudatti  and freed  Prakash the next day. Although clearly depressed  as a result of his ordeal, the man was able to identify some of his friends who had come to meet him on hearing of his situation.
Saudatti tahsildar, Doulatgouda Patil  took Prakash to the government hospital for treatment and his condition is said to be improving. The police is investigating why his family chose to confine him to the house, when it could have admitted him to a hospital instead.
