‘Kidnapped’ man held as online pimp
Chennai: While probing the suspected kidnap of the son of a former Panchayat chief in neighbouring Kanchipuram, police stumbled on to the fact that the son was an online pimp. He was arrested by the Chennai anti-vice squad.
“Karthik was arrested and jailed for running an online commercial sex workers’ racket. He was ‘popular’ online pimp in the city who used to ‘deliver’ girls on request to his clients at a premium rate,” an anti-vice squad official said.
Karthik, 31, son of Jagadeeswari Balaraman, former panchayat head of a village in Guduvanchery, was reported missing since July 29 and his family members gave a complaint at the Otteri police station in Kanchipuram. Kanchipuram police formed a special team to trace the missing man, particularly since the family complained of abduction.
When checking the call records of Karthik, police found that he was in constant touch with a woman named Logeswari from Kelambakkam.
The police team then conducted enquiries with her and she disclosed that she and Karthik together had been running an online sex racket based in Tambaram.
“She was also a pimp,” police revealed. Kanchipuram police later confirmed that Karthik was picked up by AVS and lodged in Puzhal prison. “He was bringing women from Andhra Pradesh and pushing them into the flesh trade. Just a call on his mobile number posted on a website was enough to get the girls,” the AVS official concluded.
