Goons murder 65-yr-old trader
Nellore: Three unidentified goons murdered a 65-year-old trader by slitting his throat at his residence at Pelletivari Street in Gudur town on Monday morning.
The goons stuffed a cloth into the deceased, Duggisetty Krishnaiah’s mouth before they killed him.
According to the deceased’s wife Jayamma, three unidentified persons came totheir house at around 10.30 am. The goons left the house after a while. When Jayamma went upstairs, she could not find her husband.
She called out his name but when she got no answer she alerted her neighbours. But she soon discovered her husband lying in a pool of blood. The neighbours immediately informed the police.

Ex-cop held for theft
Kochi: A former civil police officer was held from Kochi on Monday on charges of theft . The 44-year old man, identified as Sreekumar, a native of Thiruvananthapuram, was arrested by the railway police on the charge of stealing a passenger’s bag while travelling by Venad Express on June 30.
The bag contained two mobile phones and Rs 1.29 lakh in cash. Railway police official Ashok, who arrested the accused, said the theft occurred at Angamaly on June 30 when the train was going from Shoranur to Thiruvananthapuram.
“Sreekumar was in an inebriated state. He confessed he had grabbed the bag and got down at Angamaly. The victim waited for a couple days to see if the thief would return the bag as it contained the mobile phones. He lodged a complaint on Saturday and we have been on his trail ever since”, said the official.
The man was waiting on the fifth platform at Ernakulam South Railway Station when he was arrested. “We found him to be moving around quite furtively. We took him in custody and checked his belongings. A mobile phone he had on him had the same IMEI number of the cell phone that was lost.

Chennai: A 22-year-old divorced woman was found dead with stab injuries on her private parts at her house where she lived with a live-in partner and 4-year-old daughter in block No. 270 in Manali New Town, on Monday evening. The woman was identified as Indumathi, ex-wife of Raj.
“She was living with Suresh. Of late, she was closely interacting with another man, called Narendran. The injuries found on her body indicate that the murder was a result of sexual jealousy,” the police said.

Krishnagiri: A construction labourer, upset over the maintenance demand of his wife, stabbed himself on Monday in the court hall at Krishnagiri, creating panic among the judge and others in the court.
The police said Jayanthi, 30, of Mettupuliyur village, near Poochampalli of Krishnagiri, was married to Arumugam, 35, a construction labourer who is also a native of Mettupuliyur. Two years ago, Jayanthi applied for divorce in the family court of Krishnagiri.
Later, the woman filed another petition seeking maintenance from Arumugam when the divorce case was at the trial stage. The trial on the maintenance petition came up for hearing on Monday morning.
Arumugam and his wife Jayanthi appeared before family court judge Sanjeev Kumar. The husband informed the court that Jayanthi had her own source of income to run the family but was hiding the fact and demanding maintenance from him even before the judgment on her divorce petition was delivered.
He also blamed Jayanthi for preventing witnesses in his favour from appearing before the court. Then, Arumugam pulled out a knife from his waist and stabbed himself in his abdomen thrice before he fainted. He was rushed to the Krishnagiri government hospital where his condition was reported to be stable.
The Krishnagiri police registered a case and further investigations are on.

Kochi: The Palarivattom police on Monday arrested the former project manager of Friends Janasevana Centre at Kaloor International Stadium on charge of swindling lakhs of rupees, which were remitted by the public for paying bills of different departments.
The arrested, identified as Sasi of J.M. Flat at Vaduthala, allegedly had been siphoning off the money remitted by the public without transfering it to respective banks.
According to police, the project manager of Friends Janasevana Centre has to deposit the collected money at the bank the next working day after registering it on the collection day. “But Sasi used to take the public money for his personal needs.When the bank officials asked him for the money, he used to give excuses. A few times he adjusted the old liabilities by taking money from other bill payments.
It was when his colleagues noticed his failure to remit the money truthcame to light,” said Vijayashanker, the sub inspector of Palarivattom police station.
A new project manager assigned charge when the scam became frequent,police added.
The new manager also found that Sasi had swindled Rs 15.98 L from a day’s payments on August 18, last year. The officials lodged a complaint before the police . Later, th e cops found that the accused had swindled money from the payments many days.

Hyderabad: The Central Crime Station police in Malkajgiri arrested a seven-member gang, which includes four women, for thefts. The cops recovered about 50-tola gold ornaments and five-tola silver ornaments (worth nearly Rs 13 lakh). Incidentally, six of the gang members are from the same family. The family has been involved in about 21 theft cases under the Cyberabad commissionerate alone.
Those arrested are: Podishety Kavitha, 40; Syed Mohammed, 24, Meharunnisa alias Merunu, 29, Syed Ashu alias Iswarya, 23, D. Nirmala alias Syed Rasheeda Begum, 55, D. Mallesh, 48, and Chennoji Narsimha Chary, 35.
Nirmala and Mallesh are a couple. Kavitha is Nirmala’s sister. Mohammed is Nirmala’s son, while Merunu and Ishwarya are her daughters. Narasimha was the receiver of the stolen property.
According to S. Ranga Reddy, DCP crimes, Cyberabad, “The family members used to divide themselves into two groups and enter crowded function halls and temples. They would target women busy looking after their kids or offering prayers and make away with their jewellery without the victims even noticing.”
“Some of the gang members would travel by RTC buses and target passengers. The stolen jewellery would be sold to Narasimha Chary,” he said. In 2012, the gang had committed about six thefts at various function halls and was also held by the LB Nagar police.
According to police, The gang members were released from jail on bail in August 2012 after which they continued stealing. After their release, they never appeared before the court. Till now about 20 non-bailable cases are pending against them in LB nagar police station.

Visakhapatnam: Amid the rising incidents of robberies in the port city, the Vizag police on Monday busted a five-member gang, four of them autorickshaw drivers, that was involved in 24 robberies.
About 500 gm of gold ornaments, 18 kg of silver ornaments and some old coins and currency, all worth over Rs 20 lakh, were recovered from the gang. Police believes the lootwas stolen from various places in the city in last few months.
Vizag police commissioner B. Shivadhar Reddy said the kingpin Boddapu Baburao, 27, of Pedapalle, has a 10-year record in Vizag and East Godavari districts. He has been arrested several times but has secured bail and gone back to robbery, police said.
According to police, Baburao met Setti Appalaraju, 33, accused in an attempt-to-murder case, at the Central Jail. After their release, the duo roped in Y. Appalaraju, 40, P. Prasad, 36, and G.
Apparao, 26, all autorickshaw drivers. The gang would make a note of locked houses, temples and jewellery shops in the city while driving their autorickshaws in the day and strike those places at night.
Additional DCP S.V. Rajulu said the police got the breakthrough when they caught one of the members selling stolen goods.
During interrogation, he identified the other gang members and this led to their arrest. Cops seized two autorickshaws used for the crimes.
