UP businessman dies under suspicious conditions
Visakhapatnam: A 55-year-old businessman Shyam Sunder Agarwal died under suspicious conditions at his home near Madhurawada under PM Palem police station limits in the city on Monday. 
According to police, Agarwal was native of Uttar Pradesh and started a cleaning of soft drink bottles along with one K Dinesh Kumar of Bidar area in Karnataka.  Agrawal had bottle cleaning and export business at Guntur, Ranga Reddy and Visakhapatnam. 
On Monday PM Pallem police received a call about a suspicious death of Agrawal at his rented house and the police reached the spot immediately to investigate. Sub-Inspector of Police, Ch Ramdas said  Agrawal’s body was found lying on the ground facing towards the sky in his room. 
No injuries have been identified on the body expect some blood flowing from the deceased person’s ears. A suspected murder case has been registered and the body has been shifted to KGH for postmortem. K Dinesh Kumar has been taken into custody for interrogation.

Boy dies in pit dug for flyover
Vijayawada: Negligence in placing caution signs at the under-construction flyover at Krishnalanka is believed to have led to the death of an 11-year-old boy on Monday.
The boy’s body was noticed on Monday morning in a 6 feet deep pit, dug by National Highway Authority of India to lay the pillar for the flyover near the low bridge.
Police said that Chevuri Shiva Kalyan Babu, son of Lakshman Rao, was missing since Sunday midnight after he left to meet his mother who had gone to the church near Kanakadurga Varadhi.
It is believed that the boy fell into the pit filled with rainwater and drowned.
Police said that the officials had only placed barricades in front of the pit to warn vehicles. However, pedestrians used to jump over the barricade and cross the road. Unfortunately, the pit was full of water when Kalyan Babu jumped over the barricade and fell into it, the police said.
While the police registered a case and took up investigations, what is most noticeable is the lack of safety measures adopted by the authorities warning the publice about the pits.There were no caution boards to indicate that there is a deep pit ahead at the spot where the incident took place.  
The boy’s body was sent to government hospital for postmortem and the reports are awaited.

Visakhapatnam: A 27-year-old woman committed suicide by hanging herself from a  ceiling fan in her house near Vambay colony under PM Palem police station limits in the city on Monday devastated over the sudden demise of her father.
According to reports, J.J. Lakshmi got  married to J.V. Ramana Reddy two years ago and they were living at Vambay Colony. Raman Reddy is a drunkard and reportedly has been harassing Lakshmi for money to consume alcohol.
Cops said that Lakshmi’s father Narasimhulu, the sole breadwinner of the family, passed away on Monday due to ill health. Police suspect that Lakshmi ended her life as Reddy is a drunkard and was not able to feed her. The body was shifted to KGH for post-mortem after registering a case.

Hyderabad: An armed robber shot at a roadside vendor’s helper in a bid to snatch a cash bag from the latter at Sangeethnagar of Kukatpally at 1 am on Monday. Helper J. Chandu, 24, sustained a bullet injury on his left wrist. The robber, however, failed to loot the cash bag containing Rs 45,000 owing to the resistance put up by the vendor’s helper, the police said. 
The crook fled the spot when locals came to Chandu’s rescue, said the police. The incident occurred when Chandu was returning from the shop to hand over the day’s cash to his owner at the latter’s house.
The helper went by an autorickshaw from Nizampet and got down at the main road. “After I got down from the auto, I was walking into the street where my owner’s house is located. Hardly had I walked about 30 yards, I saw a man sitting in a dark corner of the street. Seeing me, he started walking towards me, and as he reached closer, he suddenly pounced upon me and tried to snatch the money bag.
When I retaliated, he showed me a county made weapon and threaten me with dire consequences. However, I pushed him hard and tried to escape. In between the scuffle, he suddenly fired at my hand,” said Chandu who is now undergoing treatment at Nims.
Inspector N. Chandrakant said that even after he was injured, Chandu managed to escape from the offender’s clutches.
“He ran towards the main road crying out for help. As few locals started gathering at the spot, the robber, who was following the victim, turned back andtook to the heels,” the inspector said.
On a complaint lodged by Chandu, the police registered a case under section 394 of IPC and the Arms act.

Chennai: The CB-CID sleuths are hunting for pimps, including two women, allegedly “handling” a 14-year-old girl from Vyasarpadi, after she was pushed into prostitution by godman Aravazhi Siddhar and the girl’s mother.
The police have so far arrested and remanded six persons, the girl’s mother, the godman, a shopkeeper, Rajesh Ku­mar, who ran a perfum­ery near Chennai Central railway station, his friends, Rakesh of Was­hermenpet, Ganesh of Royapuram and Su­rendra Babu from Ayan­avaram. The four men were charged with gang raping the minor girl on the Marina beach.
Sources said the sleuths had already detained Kumar, a broker, and are looking for at least three other brokers- Selvam, Jaya and Latha.
The Tamil Nadu police came to know about the girl after she was rescued from Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh through the child’s help line. The girl had escaped from the  from Chennai and was living in the temple town, selling mangoes.
It was the girl’s mother who took her to the godman for a night pooja when he allegedly raped her.
The godman, who operated from B.V. colony in Vysarpadi, reportedly kept her in his custody for some time and sexually abused her with the full knowledge of her mot­her, and later she was ha­nded over to another group, which ran a prostitution racket.
The mother took her  saying that a pooja would be conducted for improving her studies. During enquiry, the girl informed the police that she wanted to go back to school.

Chennai: Like in a movie, unidentified persons drove away a parked van carrying Rs 3.5 crore worth of finished gold and diamonds belonging to the Tata gold house being transported to Chennai from Hosur. The employees accompanying the yellow metal were having lunch at a hotel on Bengaluru-Chennai highway near Sriperumbudur in Kanchipuram district on Monday.
The police located the abandoned van in an interior road nearly 2 km away from the hotel, but the entire gold was missing. The thieves had taken the gold in another car leaving the van behind.
 
According to the police, a private agency was hired by the Tata gold house to transport the finished gold from the production centre to their jewellery shops in northern Tamil Nadu. Rajendran (supervisor), Subash (gunman) and driver Sathish were travelling in the van. 
They had delivered ornaments in shops and showrooms in Vellore and Kanchipuram and were heading towards Chennai with Rs 3.5 crore worth of jewellery  when the incident happened.

Cops return stolen baby to parentsHyderabad: Parents of a new born baby, kidnapped from Gandhi Hospital on Sunday, were overjoyed when a police team from the Chilkalguda police station returned their baby boy to them on Monday. The child was dehydrated but otherwise in good health.
 
The parents, Y. Manohar and Sumithra had a love marriage that their parents disapproved of and hence no members of their families were present at the delivery or after, making it easy for the child to be abducted.

R. Jaya Lakshmi, DCP, North, said the hospital had been told to install surveillance cameras to prevent recurrence of such crimes.
Dr Chandrasekhar, superintendent of Gandhi Hospital, said, “We will make efforts to check safety measures and set up surveillance cameras within 15-20 days both inside and outside the hospital.”
The motive of the crime is yet to be ascertained. The two accused have been taken into custody and will be interrogated. Manohar, the infant’s father, told this newspaper, “I was worried about my child. It was so difficult for me to console my wife. We were in agony for a day.”

Hyderabad: A day after an incident of robbery took place in a house in Habeebnagar, in which a teenager was strangled to death by the robbers, police have revealed that murder was committed by two men.
Police said the available CCTV footage showed that two persons had entered the house and they came out just after a few minutes. “The camera footage showed that the two persons came on a bike, entered the house. We have started identifying the offenders involved in the crime,” Ghoshamahal ACP D. Srinivas said.
So far, cops have questioned more than 10 people, including the deceased’s relatives and neighbours.
“Since we suspect that the murder was the handiwork of the deceased’s acquaintances, we have interrogated some of them,” the ACP said.
Robbers got into the house of  K. Pochaiah at Sitaram Bagh on Sunday and murdered 18-year-old K. Shivakumar, who was alone in the house. The robbers decamped with 1 kg gold and Rs 4.5 lakh in cash.
 
The police have formed four special teams to trace the assaulters. A case of murder and robbery has been booked by the Habeebnagar police.

P. Shankar Rao’s brother held in a cheating case
Hyderabad: The police on Monday arrested P. Dayanand, brother of former minister and Cantonment MLA P. Shankar Rao, in connection with a cheating case. Dayanand had created fake documents of a plot in Gemini colony, Ramnagar.
The court referred the case to the police who registered a case against Dayanand and arrested him.
Dayanand is said to have created forged documents of a 160 square yard plot by changing the ownership of the plot to his name. A petition was filed in this regard with the XVII Metropolitan Court, Nampally, last year. The court examined the petition and referred the case to the cops in November 2012.
A case was registered by the Musheerabad police and  investigations led to the arrest. Musheerabad sub-Inspector of Police D. Ashok Naik said, “It was the courtwhich referred the case to us and we registered a case and went ahead with the arrest.”
A police team went to Shankar Rao’s residence in Gangaputra Colony in Musheerabad on Monday morning and arrested Dayanand. He was brought to the police station and remanded to judicial custody.
A case was registered under sections 406 (Criminal breach of trust), 420 (Cheating), 506 (Criminal intimidation), and 509 (Outraging modesty of a woman) of the IPC and is being investigated.
Earlier, on a reference from the AP High Court, a case was registered against Shankar Rao and Dayanand for land grabbing in Kanajiguda in Alwal. However, the two moved the court and had the case stayed.

Hyderabad: A homeguard’s wife, A. Lavanya, 23, was found hanging in her house at Karmika Nagar in Jubilee Hills. The victims’ parents alleged that she was tortured by 28-year-old S. Shankarappa, who is a homeguard at CAR head quarters, for additional dowry and for not bearing children.
According to the police, the woman died on Sunday night. “Doctors at the mortuary said the woman was dead many hours ago. However, we were intimated at around 10am on Monday by the homeguard,” said Jubilee Hills SI K. Ramesh.
 
The investigation charge has been handed over to Mandal Revenue Officer since it was a dowry death case.

Khammam: Mystery shrouds the death of an employee of Heavy Water Plant (HWP) Manuguru, who was found murdered near Aswapuram in Khammam district on Monday.
According to reports, G.K. Gowda, 57, working as a crane operator in the HWP, was stabbed to death and his body found at a culvert on the Mettagudem-Gopalapuram road, 6 km from Manuguru railway station.
 
It is learnt that Gowda, who hails from Karnataka, reportedly boarded an autorickshaw in the early hours after alighting a trainfrom Hyderabad.

Dharmapuri: A techie woman, who came to Chennai from Singapore and against whom non-bailable warrants (NBW) were pending, was sent to Salem jail as remand prisoner following her arrest on Sunday.
The police said S. Abitha, 35, of Sathuvachari in Vellore, was married to D. Saravanan, 37, of Kumarasamypettai, in Dharmapuri.
The couple has a daughter, but were separated due to some misunderstandings leading to a family dispute.
In 2012, Dharmapuri B1 police station registered a case against Abitha on the orders of Dharmapuri judicial court on a petition filed by Saravanan. The petitioner said Abitha, staying in Singapore, had threatened Saravanan if he failed to hand over the daughter to her. Though Dharma­puri police registered a case against Abitha, they were unable to arrest the woman as she was in Singapore.
The Chennai police, who were informed of Abitha’s arrival from Singapore, arrested her at Chennai airport when she was leaving to visit her parents in Vellore. Abitha was brought here by the Dharma­puri police from Chennai and produced before the judicial magistrate court in Dharmapuri.
The court gave orders for Abitha to stay in the Salem women’s prison as a remand prisoner.

Thiruvanant­hapuram: The autopsy on the medical student, who died allegedly after having a chicken biriyani at a hotel in Kazhakoottam, indicates she died after ingesting pesticide in apparent suicide.
Shankumugham as­sis­tant commi­ssi­on­er K.S. Vimal told DC that the autopsy had thrown up clues on unnatural death, whether suicide or death by other means.
 
“We will start a probe into all angles on how she came to ingest the toxic substance, whether it was all by herself or induced by someone else”, said Vimal. 
Rejitha Rajiv, first year student at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Me­di­cal Education and Research, Puduche­rry, died on July 27 at Medical College Hospital here after initial treatment at a private hospital.
Rejitha's parents had alleged that biriyani was the culprit. But the chemical analysis report last week confirmed the presence of ethion, a moderately toxic pesticide, in the viscera, pointing to unnatural death.
