Patna: The two abandoned sisters were helped by none other than Amitabh Bachchan, but their mother pocketed the Rs two lakh cheque donated by the superstar and vanished, leaving the two staring at an uncertain future.
Rimjhim (12) and Anjali (11), now only have the principal of their private school to look after them. Giving a false residential address of Muzaffarpur, Shikha Pandey had admitted the two girls to Shanti Niketan School in the state capital in October, 2006, and did not return, said the school Principal Avineshwar Prasad Singh.
After the woes of the sisters were highlighted in the media, Amitabh Bachchan offered Rs two lakh to them and invited them to the foundation stone laying function of a girls school at Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh in the name of her daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai on January 27, 2008.
After coming to know about Big B's gesture, the mother surfaced at the school three days before the scheduled function, Singh told PTI. Being asked about her going underground, she had told the principal that her husband was in jail and she was facing a lot of financial hardship.
The woman accompanied the principal and the girls to the function at Barabanki. Bachchan took the sisters in his arms on the stage and handed over a cheque of Rs two lakh to their mother in her name for their better future, the principal said. All returned happily to the school the next day and Shikha promised him to take daughters but she never returned, the principal said.
Now students of class III, the girls are being looked after by the principal who also has two sons.
"If I ever get an opportunity, I will definitely tell Amit jee about the sorry episode," he said. Rimjhim, the elder among the two, is suffering from epilepsy and It is becoming difficult for the Principal to look after her health problem. He said the girls hate to talk about their mother. Initially they used to cry the whole night but with time tears have dried up in their eyes, Singh said.

Plumber stabbed to death by wife’s paramour
Bengaluru: A 32-year-old plumber was stabbed to death by his wife’s paramour – who also happened to be the victim’s old friend – in Rajagopal Nagar police limits on Friday night. The deceased, T Venkatesh, was a native of Magadi taluk and resident of Basappana Katte.
Venkatesh lived with his wife Parvatamma (26) and their three daughters aged eight years, six years and 11 months. He worked as a plumber, while his wife is a garment factory employee.The police said Venkat­esh’s friend, Sidd­araju, alias Sidda (25), used to visit their house regularly and started an affair with Parvatamma.
Venkatesh, who noticed it, started fighting with his wife regularly. The police said he would get drunk and start fights with his wife.
He started fighting with Sidda too. On Thursday night, Sidda came to Venk­at­esh’s house and the duo had a verbal altercation. Venkatesh warned Sidda never to come near his house again. Sidda retur­ned the next day, and threw a challenge at Venkatesh to settle the issue.
The police said Sidda had come prepared. Around 9.45 pm, Sidda and two of his friends took Venkatesh to 8th cross, Satish Circle; where another argument ensued.
Taking a knife out of his pocket, Sidda reportedly stabbed Venkatesh in the left side of his chest, killing him on the spot.
Venkatesh was rushed to Sapthagiri Hospital where he was declared brought dead. Meanwhile, Sidda and his accomplices – identified as ‘Juttu’ – are said to be absconding.

Minor pregnant after 55-yr-old rapes her
Bengaluru: A 55-year-old man was arrested for allegedly repeatedly raping a 14-year-old minor girl and making her pregnant, in Pulakeshinagar police limits on Saturday.
The accused, Anwar alias Prince, is a former businessman and resident of Atchin's Cross. The police said the minor girl lives with her parents, who are daily wage labourers, on the same street as Anwar. The girl's parents are from Kolar Gold Fields and had moved to Frazer Town in search of work a few years ago.
 
After the girl's parents left for work, Anwar would reportedly lure the girl to his house on the pretext of giving her chocolates and rape her. The girl was being raped repeatedly for the last two months, the police said.
On Friday, the girl vomited and fell unconscious while playing outside her home. Her parents rushed her to a hospital where doctors said she was pregnant.
On being questioned by her parents, the girl told them that Anwar sexually assaulted her.
 
The girl's parents approached the police, who registered a case of rape against Anwar. The accused was arrested on Saturday. Anwar and the girl are being subjected to medical tests. Pulakeshinagar police have taken up a case of rape and are probing the matter.

Doctor found killed in Nizamabad
Nizamabad: A private medical practitioner was brutally murdered at Chandrasekhar Colony here on Friday night. The incident came to light on Saturday, when the body was found in pool of blood at his residence.
According to police, P. Ramesh, 35, a native of Nadpally village in Dichpally mandal had been staying in Chandrasekhar Colony working as PMP. His wife Sujatha recently got a government job in the Bodhan area hospital.
On Friday, she went for night duty. Ramesh along with his six-year-old twin children slept in his house. Unidentified persons entered the house and murdered him.
Injuries were also found on his hands. The children did not wake up when the incident took place. Nizamabad rural police station house officer M. Somanatham rushed to the spot and shifted the body to the government general hospital for postmortem. Dog squad and CLUES teams were pressed into service. Following a complaint lodged by the wife, police registered a case.

Bengaluru: The Ramanagara police have arrested 12 people including three B.Com students from a reputed college in the city in three separate instances for various cases of dacoity, theft, possession of stolen goods, and preparation for dacoity in Harohalli, Kudur, and Kumbalgodu police limits. Stolen goods worth Rs 65 lakh was recovered altogether.
The Harohalli police nabbed five people including three B.Com students from Bengaluru in connection with three cases of dacoity in Harohalli and Thalagattapura police limits on Tuesday. The accused are: M Chandrashekar (23) and Santosh R (23) from Vasanthapura, C. Chandrashekar (23) and Dilipa alias Charlie (24) from Yelachanahalli, and Chetan C. (20) from Marenahalli.Among these, C. Chandrashekar, Dilipa alias Charlie, and Chetan C. are B.Com students at a college in Kumaraswamy Layout. Five mobile phones and two motorcycles were recovered from the accused.The Kudur police also busted a racket and seized stolen vehicles and spare parts worth Rs 50 lakh from two men. The offenders– identified as Aslam Pasha alias Babu and Aseef Pasha alias Areef Pasha- reportedly used to steal vehicles and sell them as scrap after dismantling them.
Meanwhile, the Kumb­algod police arrested five people last week who were preparing to carry out a dacoity near Hosa Byrohalli and recovered a four-wheeler and stolen property worth Rs 14 lakh from them. The accused have been identified as Vijayakumar alias Viji, Prathap alias Appi, Girish, Putta alias Puttaraja alias Venkatesh, and Arpith Raj alias Arpith.

Rajahmundry: Two engineering students were arrested on the charges of theft and 40 sovereigns of gold ornaments were seized from them.
East zone DSP R. Satyanandam told newsmen here on Saturday that the students identified as Kantipudi Surendra and Ryali Ratnasai Charan hailing from the city gained entry into the house of LIC officer Suryanarayana, who is living in one of the flats of Swamy Apartments at Katari Nagar on August 28. They threatened the girl, who is pursuing engineering, with a knife and lifted the gold ornaments from the safe.
Based on the complaint, the police booked a case and took up investigation. During the inquiry, the police found the involvement of the two engineering students and nabbed them.
