Crafts museum ready for Michelle

Nov. 4: A wooden haveli, a mammoth rath, 60 archaeological findings of ancestor worshipping, 14 huts, part of village complex and 25 craftswomen from across the country demonstrating their works along with a rich textile library await Michelle Obama, wife of US President Barack Obama, in the crafts museum in the capital where she is expected to visit on Monday. Ms Obama is also likely to be shown an eight-minute-long documentary on handicrafts of India.

The chairperson of the museum, Dr Ruchira Ghosh, stated that she would be highly delighted if Ms Obama chose to come here. “This could be the best publicity for the crafts museum. Mrs Obama’s visit could do wonders for us,” said Dr Ghosh.

The museum is all geared up to welcome the First Lady of the US and has everything to leave her spell-bound. “The museum boasts of a wooden haveli which earlier belonged to the nawab of Radhapur. The haveli was dismantled and the pieces were rearranged here to give the haveli its shape again, which is unique in itself,” said retired deputy director and a consultant for the museum, Mushtak Khan.
