CPM lashes out at ‘Modi model’
The CPI(M) on Monday hit out at Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi and his growth model for the state even as it accused the BJP strongman of spreading terror in the name of Hindutva.
On Monday, the CPI(M) released a booklet targeting Mr Modi. The booklet, titled The BJP Model for India: Vikas Purush and Vinash Niti, focuses on Mr Modi and his alleged role in the 2002 Gujarat riots.
The Left party’s move to come out in open criticism of Mr Modi at this juncture is being seen as one that can bring the CPI(M) and the Congress on the same page at a time when the ruling political party is keeping options open for a post-poll understanding in 2014.
While the CPI(M) has outrightly denied that it cannot have any understanding with either the Congress or the BJP, party insiders admit that tactically BJP-Modi is the greater political enemy.
The Left publication alleges that there has been a systematic attempt by the Modi government to subvert truth and justice since the riots took place more than 11 years ago. The 24-page booklet accuses the BJP leader of spreading terror in the name of Hindutva. It also questions the alleged fake encounter killings, including that of suspected LeT terrorist Ishrat Jahan, during the Modi regime.
The BJP had recently announced that Mr Modi will spearhead the election campaign for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. Trashing the BJP’s claims, the booklet outlines flaws in the Gujarat development model initiated by Mr Modi terming it pro-corporate even as the parametres outlined in the booklet portray the state in poor light in terms of social inequalities, infant mortality, malnutrition, poor sex ratio, low wages and joblessness.
