Cover for another activist?
In the wake of the murder of Narendra Dabholkar, the Maharashtra government is now seriously considering to provide security to another anti-superstition crusader Shyam Manav, founder of the Andhshraddha Nirmulan Samiti, an organisation working for the eradication anti-superstition from society.
Home minister R.R. Patil on Wednesday said, “Though Mr Manav has not sought any security from the government, the DGP has been asked to review the threat perception and take a decision on providing security to Mr Manav.”
Mr Patil denied a failure of intelligence in the killing of Dabholkar. “First of all, it is impossible to get intelligence inputs on each and every incident. Secondly, the inputs are not specific in nature. This year we have received some 143 inputs from various intelligence agencies,” Mr Patil said. He added that even Dabhokar had never thought that this would happen to him.
When asked about Dabholkar reportedly being threatened by some groups of assassinating him like Mahatma Gandhi, Mr Patil replied, “I have no information about any such threat to Mr Dabholkar. They have been asked to take help of experts to crack the case.”
It would be more important to catch
the brain behind the killing than the assassins.”
