Court summons Anil, Tina July 26

Reliance Telecommunication Ltd (RTL) on Monday moved the Supreme Court against last week’s order of a special court here approving the CBI’s plea to summon industrialist Anil Ambani and his wife Tina Ambani to depose as prosecution witnesses during the trial of the 2G spectrum allocation case.

Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for RTL, approached a bench headed by Chief Justice P. Sathasivam seeking an urgent hearing of the plea.
The CJI said the matter should be heard by the special bench headed by Justice G.S. Singhvi which is monitoring the multi-crore scam case and hearing all applications pertaining to it. The matter is most likely to be heard by the special bench on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the special CBI court conducting trial in the case has summoned Anil Ambani to appear before it on July 26. Special CBI judge O.P. Saini on Monday approved the list submitted by the CBI comprising the names of five witnesses, including the ADA Group chairman, who are scheduled to be called for recording of their statements before the court. In the list of witnesses submitted before the court, Mr Anil Ambani’s testimony is scheduled for July 26.
The trial court had on July 19 allowed the CBI’s plea that the testimony of Anil and Tina Ambani is necessary to throw light on alleged investment of over `990 crore by his group companies in their alleged shell company Swan Telecom, facing trial in the case along with its promoters Shahid Usman Balwa and Vinod Goenka.
Reliance ADA Group’s RTL is also an accused in the case.
in which three top executives of the group are also facing trial.
