Court sends Jagan to jail for fortnight
A special court Monday dismissed the CBI’s petition for police custody of Kadapa MP Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and sent him to 14 days’ judicial custody, noting that the agency had not been able to arrest him at an appropriate time.
Principal special judge A. Pullaiah, however, agreed with the CBI that given Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy’s status as an MP, he was in a position to tamper with evidence. The court rejected the Kadapa MP’s counsels’ plea against judicial remand and also the CBI’s remand plea (Section 167 CrPc), and ordered his judicial custody under Section 309 CrPc.
The CBI said Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy had not revealed any facts during the three days of interrogation prior to his arrest. It claimed he was in a position to influence witnesses and tamper with evidence.
