Court seeks Amar medical report
After jailed Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh was suddenly shifted to AIIMS hospital Monday evening, a local court hearing his bail plea on Tuesday sought a “complete” medical report from the hospital and also directed the Tihar jail authorities to explain what necessitated his shifting.
Special Judge Sangeeta Dhingra Sehgal posted Mr Singh’s bail plea for further hearing on September 15.
The court directed the Tihar jail authorities to “furnish a complete report on the medical conditions which necessitated his (Amar Singh) shifting to AIIMS Monday evening”.
Mr Singh was sent to Tihar jail on September 6 in connection with his involvement in bribing three BJP MPs during the confidence vote in July 2008.
“I also deem it fit to have before me the entire medical record of the accused from AIIMS where the accused is stated to have been shifted to medical emergency. Director of AIIMS shall also send the report of the accused from the time of his admission in AIIMS and his present medical position positively on or before September 14 noon,” Ms Sehgal said.
Seeking interim bail for Singh, his lawyer N. Hariharan said the former Samajwadi Party leader’s condition had deteriorated in Tihar Jail and was “alarming”.
This led the court to seek fresh report on his health.
The hearing on the bail pleas of two former BJP MPs Mahabir Singh Bhagora and Faggan Singh Kulaste, arrested for their alleged involvement in the scam, was also deferred to September 29.
