Court dismisses vakalat plea of two Satyam scam accused

A court here on Thursday dismissed the special vakalat applications of former Satyam managing director Rama Raju and former chief financial officer Vadlamani Srinivas in a case filed by Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO), the investigation arm of the Union corporate affairs ministry.
The Special Court for Economic Offences here dismissed the special vakalat pleas of the two Satyam scam accused after the defence did not press for the applications in the wake of the Supreme Court order cancelling their bails.
The court, meanwhile posted the special vakalat plea of former Satyam Computers chairman B. Ramalinga Raju to November 26 after he sought for adjournment in the matter.
Raju and Vadlamani Srinivas personally appeared before the court today, though Raju was not present. The Supreme Court on October 26 had cancelled the bails granted to Raju and five others.
"Following the apex court order, the special vakalat pleas of Rama Raju and Vadlamani Srinivas were not maintainable, as they were now supposed go back to jail and we too had already opposed their applications and hence, the court dismissed their applications,"
Company Prosecutor (special public prosecutor) C Raghu told PTI. The court then posted the main case to November 26. Earlier, Raju, his brother Rama Raju and Vadlamani Srinivas had filed the special vakalat under section 205 of CrPC (dispensing the personal attendance of the accused) and wanted to be represented through their counsels. But, the SFIO had opposed the same accusing the trio of having played a key role in the multi-crore Satyam scam.
The SFIO had filed seven complaints against 11 directors of Satyam, including the trio, for alleged violations under different sections of the Companies Act in the special court here last December.
