corpn resolves to vacate stalin office, HC stops it
The Chennai corporation council adopted a resolution on Thursday instructing the zonal officer to vacate Kolathur MLA M.K. Stalin’s office.
The resolution quoted a government order that followed a recent Madras high court (HC) ruling that places earmarked for institutional purposes should not be converted into offices.
HC, however, ordered status quo. with regard to taking back the office in Jawahar Nagar.
Passing interim orders on a plea by Mr Stalin, justice V. Dhanapalan wanted to know if an opportunity was given to the person concerned and posted the case to Friday.
Mr Stalin has sought quashing of the resolution adopted by the council. He contended that since 2001, the building was not being used for educational purposes. He claimed a major part of the building was meant to stock freebies and nothing would be improper in allocating its small portion for his office.
