UP cops hunt SP leader for remarks on Maya
The UP police has launched a manhunt for former BSP MLC Heera Thakur who is now on the hitlist for allegedly making some rather derogatory remarks against chief minister Mayawati at the Samajwadi Party’s national convention at Agra this week.
Heera Thakur, who was expelled from the BSP in 2009 and subsequently joined the Samajwadi Party, made some disparaging remarks against Ms Mayawati at the Agra convention. He was immediately cut short by party president Mulayam Singh Yadav, who asked party leaders to retain dignity of speech.
Though Mr Thakur immediately left the dais and the venue, the news about his speech reached the district administration and all hell broke loose.
Police officials went from hotel to hotel in Agra, checking out if Mr Thakur was still there.
However, the SP leader had left by then.
The police in Lucknow is now keeping a close vigil on the ex-MLC’s house in Gomti Nagar and is also tracking down his criminal antecedents.
“He has bought 12 acres of land in his village in Lakhimpur district and set up two colleges, besides building a palatial house in Lucknow. He is also involved in a number of cases of crime and fraud and we are collecting all such information to prepare a foolproof case against him. He may be absconding right now but we will arrest him soon,” said a senior police official.
Sources said that Heera Thakur can expect a slew of cases and a long stint behind bars once he gets arrested by the police.
