Cops hunt couple for Hrithik spot boy job promise
The Agripada police has launched a manhunt for a thug couple for allegedly duping a city-based businessman to the tune of `5 lakh on the pretext of giving his son a job as a spot boy to Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan.
The police suspects that the couple has earlier duped several others in Gujarat to the tune of crores of rupees.
According to the police, the complainant in the case, Salim Vora, lives with his family in the Mazgaon area. He has a sister, Raziya (name changed), who lives in Ahmedabad. In the complaint lodged with the police, Mr Vora claimed that last year he had visited Raziya’s home in Ahmedabad. Raziya had then introduced Mr Vora to Wasim and Salma. Wasim, who works as cameraman in Bollywood, had taken `2 lakh from Raziya promising jobs for her sons as lightmen in South Africa. He also assured Raziya that her children would get a monthly income of `60,000 abroad.
Wasim and Salma had visited Mumbai last year in the month of November and met Mr Vora. “They told Mr Vora that they are looking for a smart boy for the job of a spot boy to Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan, for his film shootings in Australia and USA. They lured Mr Vora into the scam by assuring a monthly salary of `1 lakh. But Wasim and Salma demanded `5 lakh in return,” said an officer from the Agripada police station.
The officer further said that Mr Vora had asked the duo to give the job to his son, who had met with an accident some time ago and needed a plastic surgery on his face. Since Mr Vora had saved some money for the surgery, he agreed to give it to them.
The couple then left and came back to Mumbai after a fortnight. They asked Mr Vora to meet them at a coffee shop in Agripada where he subsequently handed over the money. Later, when Mr Vora tried to call up the couple, their cellphones remained switched off. He inquired about them with his sister as well, but even she had no clue about the duo’s whereabouts.
After months, Mr Vora finally realised that he had been cheated.
On July 4, he registered an offence with the Agripada police, under whose jurisdiction the coffee shop was located. “We have lodged the complaint under relevant sections of the IPC and are looking for the accused,” said another officer.
During the probe, the officials learned that the con-couple had duped many others with the same modus operandi in Gujarat.
