‘Cops got TV channel tip-off’
Chhattisgarh home minister Nankiram Kanwar on Tuesday dropped a bomb shell when he disclosed that state intelligence learnt about the May 25 Naxal attack on the Congress convoy at Jiram Ghati in Bastar from the editor of a local news channel.
“Additional director-general of police (intelligence), posted in the state police headquarters, received the information at 5 pm from the editor of a news channel,” Mr Kanwar told the state Assembly here taking entire House by surprise. Mr Kanwar’s statement speaks volumes on the functioning of the intelligence wing of the Chhattisgarh police. Mr Kanwar informed that the Maoist attack had begun at 4.30 pm.
hours. The then Bastar district superintendent of police (SP) Mayank Srivastav received information about the attack 15 minutes later. SP of the neighbouring Sukma district learnt about it at 1700 hours.
