Cops focus on IM Aurangabad cells
The police is now focusing on the sleeper cells of the Indian Mujahideen in Aurangabad and are working on leads as to whether they are responsible for sending the threat email. Himayat Baig, the bomb planter at the Pune German bakery blast was arrested by the Anti-Terrorism Squad had told his interrogators that he had merged the Aurangabad module of the Students Islamic Movement of India and the Indian Mujahideen operatives into Lashkar-e-Tayyaba.
“We have been focusing on Aurangabad’s module of the Simi that had later merged with the IM and LeT. Several youths have been trained by Baig into terrorism We suspect that the youth could have also been trained into technology and could have become the part of the media cell of the IM after the arrest of Mansoor Ali Peerbhoy who earlier headed it,” said a police source.
Simi operative Zainuddin Ansari had brainwashed Baig, the prime accused in the Pune German bakery blast case into terrorism during the communal riots in Beed in 2002. In the next 10 years, Baig had climbed the ladder and had become the Maharashtra chief of LeT in 2010.
“Ansari was given the task of inducting youth into terrorism. Baig was Ansari’s neighbour who was indoctrinated by the latter,” said an officer.
