Cops brace for Anna faceoff
As the civil activists led by Anna Hazare planned to march to Jayaprakash Narayan Park to begin their fast against corruption, the Delhi police swung into action and clamped Section 144 of IPC, banning any gathering in the
particular zone. The Delhi police made it clear that an undertaking by team Anna was necessary to hold the agitation. Other areas where prohibitory order have been clamped include outer Ring Road near Shantivan, Rajghat, Asaf Ali Road, Tilak Bridge, Bahadur Zafar Marg and Delhi Gate.
“We will not allow any transgression,” Dharmender Kumar, joint commissioner of police (law and order) Delhi police said. Policemen in plainclothes have also been posted in all the trouble prone areas and barricades have been erected on all the routes leading to JPN park to prevent protesters from gathering. According to the contingency plan prepared by the Delhi police, the arrested protesters will be taken to Chhatrasal Stadium in north Delhi.
“Six separate contingents of police personnel have been kept on standby in case the protesters surprise the police personnel and surface at some different place. Water cannons and a cavalcade of buses and transport facilities have been kept on a standby.”
