Congress ready for Didi
The Congress on Saturday made light of the Trinamul Congress chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s move to bring in a no confidence motion against the UPA government.
The Congress, while wondering from where Banerjee would get the support of requisite 50MPs, stated that the party is ready for the floor test.
“We have majority in the Lok Sabha and the Congress is ready for floor test,” said the Congress spokesperson Rashid Alvi.
Alvi was reacting to the statement of Ms Banerjee that her party would bring a no-confidence motion against the UPA government on the first day of the winter session.
The TMC had withdrawn support from the UPA, after the government allowed FDI in multi-brand retail and hiked the diesel prices along with capping the subsidized LPG cylinders at six per household a year.
The Congress also stated that the Trinamul Congress would not have the numerical strength to move a no confidence motion unless the party takes support of the communal forces.
“Every party is within its right to bring any motion under Parliamentary rules. If the Trinamul Congress wants to bring in a trust motion, we have nothing to say,” said Alvi, while noting that Mamata Banerjee would need support of at least 50 MPs. The Trinamul Congress has 19 Lok Sabha MPs, including Kabir Suman, who is a dissident within the party.
