Congress plenary in Rajasthan
The Congress is planning to hold the party plenary in Rajasthan in the third week of December. This was indicated by the party here on Saturday night. Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot has already requested the high command to hold the plenary in Jaipur. Earlier, the Congress plenary was held there in 1966.
This will the first time that the party high command has decided to have a Plenary in the Hindi belt after over thirty years. Earlier, the Plenary sessions were held in south(Tirupati,Bangalore, Hyderabad) East (Kolkata) and West (Mumbai). A section of the Congress was in favour of having a Plenary in UP, especially either in Lucknow or at Allahabad.
Meanwhile, a one day AICC meeting being held in New Delhi on November 2, will adopt only one resolution on the “current political affairs,” sources said.
Though the meeting has called to elect members of the CWC, the current mood in the party is to authorise the Congress chief Sonia Gandhi to constitute the highest decisionmaking body.
Though the party has yet to constitute a drafting committee for the AICC meeting, a resolution to be placed before it, would attack the Left and BJP ahead of the Assembly elections in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala and Puducherry to keep its allies in good humour. But it would be interesting to see whether it would name the AIADMK to please the ally DMK.
