Congress MPs from Telangana ask governor to cancel APPSC exam
Claiming that students from Telangana could not prepare for the recruitment exam conducted by Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission due to agitation, Congress MPs and MLAs from the region on Wednesday asked governor E.S.L. Narasimhan to get the exam cancelled.
"Telangana students could not prepare well for the APPSC Group-I exam held on September 5 as they were participating in the Telangana agitation. Besides, students from the region have been meted out injustice in the exam earlier going by the results of last year's Group-I examination," Congress MP Sarvey Satyanarayana and others
told reporters.
The Group-I examination, held on September 5, should be cancelled as some examinees from Telangana brought the question paper out of the exam centre in few minutes after the test started (as part of the agitation), Satyanarayana said.
He said the governor gave a patient hearing to the request made by the Congress delegation. Congress MPs and MLAs sought the intervention of the governor as the state government did not postpone the exam as per their demands probably because it was under pressure from non-Telangana leaders who were in favour of the test, he said.
The MPs and MLAs also accused the APPSC chairman A. Venkatram Reddy of discriminating against Telangana and demanded that he be removed from his post.
Alleging that Telangana was always discriminated against in the recruitment of employees by the APPSC, Osmania University student and Telangana political leaders cutting across party lines had demanded that the examination on September 5 be postponed.
However, students and leaders from non-Telangana regions requested that the exam be conducted as per schedule as it was already postponed twice. Barring a stray incident of clash at the OU, the exam was held in a peaceful manner across the state.
The Telangana students and political leaders demanded that the examination be cancelled and conducted again.
