Congress MP releases VS letter damning Pinarayi
The Congress MP, Mr P.T. Thomas, on Monday released copies of a letter which he claimed that the Chief Minister, Mr V.S. Achuthanandan, had written to the CPM general secretary, Mr Prakash Karat, in 2005 accusing the party state secretary, Mr Pinarayi Vijayan, of flouting all rules in the SNC Lavalin deal signed by him in 1996.
However, the copy of the letter dated July 29, 2005, and addressed to Mr Karat, does not have the signature of Mr Achuthanandan. The MP admitted this but added that if the CPM veteran denied having written such a letter, he would release more documents.
Talking to mediapersons here, Mr Thomas said that Mr Achuthanandan, who termed the Lavalin deal the “biggest case of fraud and corruption in the state since independence” in his missive to Mr Karat, had now reached a ‘deal’ with Mr Vijayan to become the Chief Minister again.
“The deafening silence of the Chief Minister after the Supreme Court dismissed the petition given by Mr Vijayan against his prosecution is evidence of this deal making,” said the MP.
Mr Thomas said that Mr Achuthanandan had written that the Lavalin deal signed in 1996 by Mr Vijayan as power minister flouted all procedures, causing losses worth hundreds of crores of rupees to the state exchequer.
The letter further accuses Mr Vijayan of agreeing to many ‘anti-party and anti-national’ conditions in the deal and even agreeing to the restructuring of the Kerala State Electricity Board much before the Centre even mooted the idea.
“I want the Chief Minister to clarify whether he still stands by the allegations he made,” said Mr Thomas.
